Harbin Six Harmony beat Taiwan Youshi 2:1

3. Chen Manqi 5D vs Bai Xinhui 1D

Choi Jeong 9p beat Kong Xiangming 8p and Zhejiang Sports Lotto caught Chendu Sports Investment, now both have 10 points. China Pingmei Shenma Group also has 10 points. Hangzhou International, Shanghai Qingyi Minghe and Team Heilongjiang all have 8 points.

Zhejiang Sports Lotto will play China Pingmei, Chendu Sports Investment will play Hangzhou International in the last round. All 6 teams still have a chance to advance.

Onishi Ryuhei 4P plays Board 1 for Team Hebei in B-League;

Am I reading this correctly? Is Onishi Ryuhei playing board 1 for team B12? His record might be is 4 wins & 2 losses, one of the losses being in round 1 against Hsu Chiayuan (Kyo Kagen) 8p, who plays for Japan.

If this is true, his performance is remarkable since his team has the same number of points (7) as team Japan and he is supposedly playing against the strongest opponents (thus carrying his team). His team seems to win whenever he wins

His wins have been against An Dongxu (#100 at GoRatings), Wang Yanhao (#283), Yun Junsang (#67), and Tong Yulin (#110), so yes, have been impressive.

Japan lost 1:3 in 7th round, so they won't be moving to league A next year. It doesn't sound like they are ready for that.

Onishi lost too, but his teammates managed to get a draw so his team has 8 points and is ahead of Japan now.

Also looks like Chinese 12-yr old 5D players are at the level of European 2p players. Artem Kachanovski played only 5D/6D amateur players and managed a 3:4 performance.

One team (I am not sure if it from these 3 you are talking about) from low part of table (did not play with european) surprisingly won in last round. If we could say that year ago we were lucky to not end in last position in this year we were unlucky to not end in 30th place.

Also looks like Chinese 12-yr old 5D players are at the level of European 2p players.

They are chosen because they are perspective and in their age their strength rise quicker than their rank. So I think this is not so big surprise.

Yes I agree gap between european and word's level is still big! But I don't share feelings that it is "too bad". It is just as it is in this moment and my feelings are that there europe is improving which is "very good".

If you want to see it as an improvement, yes, there is something that is better: they got a team win for the first time and had one more individual win than last year. (In 2018 they won 7 individual games, this time they won 8 games).

And last year the 4 points was misleading, since one of the wins was against the team that didn't exist in their bye round. So last year's result is really only (2, 14, 40).

This year 4 of their 8 wins was against the last placed team, which didn't exist last year. So if that last team didn't participate this year, their result might have looked much worse in 2019 compared to 2018...

And I didn't intend to say the performance was bad. It was mildly disappointing, since on paper the team they played in the last round seemed of comparable strength. So I was hoping for another draw...

Pavol Lisy did better than last year: won 2 games vs 0 in 2018. He's the only that that can definitely say he improved vs last year. For the others, the results are mixed.

Long story short: maybe they improved, maybe they didn't. It's unclear to me.

At a minimum this is a huge over simplification of the matter.

I have both played against a large amount, and been on site to watch games between European and American 4, 5, 6-dan amateurs vs Chinese 4-dan and 5-dan amateurs.

Some of them are weaker than their EGF counterparts, some are on the same level, some are stronger, and some are already stronger than many many professionals.


Thats simply what happens when you have a huge amount of 5-dan amateurs and only the very strongest become professionals.
Not to even mention that some choose not to pursue a professional career, but could beat a rather huge amounts of pros..

Team Europe finished 2nd to the last which is similar to last year. But this year they finally get a win. I think it is an improvement over last year.

I believe the original sponsorship agreement was for three years. Hopefully we will see a renewal of the agreement.

Choi Jeong 9p and Kong Xiangming 8p let their teams to the next level. This is especially impressive for 63 years old Kong 8p given that she is semi retired and has not played many professional games in recent years at all. I would like to see her back in competition in next year's WAL.
