Re: What do you normally use to play on KGS?
I use CGoban to play, and ShinKGS to watch games on my smartphone.
I also prefer the Pandanet interface, but still play on KGS : when I am tired of losing on one server, I move to another one.

All non-Java clients are missing features that CGoban has (audio, etc), so I stick with CGoban.
If shinkgs were to have full feature and reliability parity with KGS, I’d use shin instead.

I don't like to feel old (or forgetful) but...
CGoban-h?
ShinKGS? (this I heard of as being in development by Bill Shubert but I thought it was canceled)
GoUniverse?
I use what I can get on gokgs.com ^^ Not that I use KGS frequently.

shin.gokgs.com
It wasn’t made by wms, but it’s a decent webui for KGS. It lacks some features, but it’s decent.

I was going to give this a try, but it says "Login failed - no such user". I haven't played on KGS for maybe 3 years, does it actually delete user names after awhile? My user name is (was?) "EricBackus".

Yes, KGS deletes accounts which have not been in use for 6 months.

Yeah, just lost a totally won game on time because there were no audio clues : D

I haven't played in a while, but when I did, I used GoUniverse most of the time. Really a much nicer experience than CGoban. (Audio worked fine).
Patience, grasshopper.

Wow, I probably knew that but forgot about it.SoDesuNe wrote:Yes, KGS deletes accounts which have not been in use for 6 months.EricBackus wrote:I was going to give this a try, but it says "Login failed - no such user". You know, if KGS wants to attract and keep players, it really shouldn't delete accounts like that. Currently I use GoPanda2 and play on PandaNet, which was IGS long ago. I've had an account there continuously for more than 15 years, in spite of occasional long gaps in playing. (Also I think I remember that KGS only keeps your last 6-months-worth of games. The PandaNet game records seem to go back only to 2015, but at least that's better than 6 months.) Sure, I know that this is all probably done to conserve space so that the cost of running the server is minimized. I sympathize up to a point, but, well, I'm playing on PandaNet and not KGS right now because I can still log into PandaNet.

If your nickname hasn't been taken by someone else, you can open a new account on KGS with the same nickname.
If you want to look at your old games, they are still on the server's memory at http://gokgs.com/archives.jsp
(check "include expired accounts").
