I am struggling to create and manage a tournament using multiple McMahon bars, as described at Sensei's page:
https://senseis.xmp.net/?McMahonPairing#toc4
Using both OpenGotha and McMahon software, I could not exactly find the tweak required. I believe none of it support the feature but could be that I am overlooking something.
I've also performed searches on the forum and on the internet, without success.
Does anyone know how can this be handled?

Re: McMahon bands - tournament management software
Hi,
Open Gotha can't manage this. When I need it, I temporarily overwrite the rank of each player with a fictive rank corresponding to the McMahon section that I want him to be registered into.
Then I run the tournament.
Then, when I export the results, I restore manually the real ranks in front of each player.

1 - alter the entry ranks
2 - use the Argentinian program that supports this directly
I wrote a sick program that would let you do the same thing. Except it works in terms of ratings rather than ranks.

Would you have the weblink to the argentinian software you mentioned?
Or to your own? - if it is open for public use.

Re: McMahon bands - tournament management software
I had a more careful look at what you propose. My program will let you do something like
Band A = 2000+
Band B = 1800-2000
Band C = 1600-1800 -- Now you can see the problem right, you're restricted to steps of equal size. So I think it is useless for you.
If the number of participants is small, or if you know how you want to set the bands beforehand, I really think just adjusting the ranks when you enter players into the system is the best way forward.
https://senseis.xmp.net/?TournamentDirectingSoftware has the Argentine program (AAGO Tournament) Looks like you have to request a copy by email.

You can do this with MacMahon. Here's how, with screenshots.
First, I created a tournament with 16 participants ranging from 10 kyu to 6 dan. I will put these in to 4 groups 3d-6d, 2k-2d, 6k-3k and 10k-7k.
Now first off, I set the upper McMahon bar so that it includes the strongest two intended groups, and the lower McMahon bar two ranks lower to create two additional groups (need more groups? Set it lower equal to the extra number of groups you want)
We now have three McMahon groups:

Re: McMahon bands - tournament management software
Now, we split the top group in two by adding the strongest players to the supergroup (right click):
We do this for all four players and get four groups:
But the third group is now one player only. To fix that, we are going to edit players:
Here I'm going to edit John, who needs to be a group higher

Re: McMahon bands - tournament management software
On the player edit screen, you can adjust their McMahon score:
Here John's rank (4 kyu) needs to be adjusted by 1 to put him in the next group.
The ranks of Kim and Linda need to be adjust by 2 and by 3 to also put them in this group:
So now we have four groups with bands 3d-6d, 2k-2d, 6k-3k and 10k-7k
MacMahon's "adjust by level(s)" feature creates a virtual rank without touching the actual rank.
If you had needed 5 group (say there were also 4 players ranked 11k-14k) then the lower bar should be 5kyu, and the players with ranks 10k-7k would need an adjustment to bring them to 4 kyu (i.e. 3-6 ranks).
