The joseki Gomoto is referring to is
(etc. I don't show the continuations.) However, I don't think you will encounter it at your level. If you are White, most of the time, after
, Black will extend, and the sequence can continue for instance like this:
If Black ever chooses the push and cut, a simpler continuation is the following:

I want to put in a good word for "38 basic joseki", one of the most underestimated books in my opinion :-)
Of course if you try to memorise joseki from this book, then you'll suffer from the book being incomplete (it wasn't comprehensive even before it was out of date!) But if you actually read the book -- and I mean read all the words and think about them, don't just look at the pictures! -- then you'll find a wealth of good advice.
Things this book covers:
Just to add to the fun: the authors don't spoon-feed you by having a chapter called "shape", a chapter called "aji", etc. They just give you the case studies, and it's up to you to pay attention as each concept is pointed out.

- Good shape
- Assessing the value of influence vs territory, what does a fair trade look like?
- Sente and gote
- Tesuji for life and death and for capturing races
- Aji and follow-up moves
- Direction of play
- Joseki choice and making your stones work together: there are several full-board examples

No, not yet. Possibly we're in the process of writing one via the forums on this site :-)dfan wrote:I don't think there is an English dictionary featuring post-AI joseki (yet).

The problem with Josekipedia is all the positions that are played around 0-4 times. If Joseki are standard sequences of moves, then those can not be Joseki.Gomoto wrote:In actual analyzing soon you will have to use a combination of AI and Josekipedia (much more variations than the online go joseki dictionary)
The position you are so interested in has been reached only twice (according to ps.waltheri).
Here(https://gokibitz.com/kifu/rkXseR1Yr) is how the low pincer has been handled in 39 occassions professionals have played it in the past year.

Easy Learning: Joseki (book or PDF) is available here:Jæja wrote:place where I can pick up the book online?

Like every joseki selection with essentially correct variations, it is possible to learn from this one. I did by spending 4 hours per joseki.xela wrote:I want to put in a good word for "38 basic joseki"
[...] as each concept is pointed out.
However, the book has these problems:
1) Its selection is outdated.
2) Among its variations, there is a too large percentage of hardly useful ones.
3) It has too few josekis.
4) All the good things (incl. being a toolbox of how to think about joseki) you list as something that could be learned are not or hardly mentioned in the book but must be reinvented by the reader. I could (because of spending 4 hours per joseki) but probably not everybody can.
5) Many concepts are missing and are very unlikely to be reinvented by the reader.

Re: Is there a post-AI dictionary of basic joseki?
To be honest I don't exactly trust josekipedia. I do use it as a quick reference if I need to look up some variation, but I wouldn't use it for serious study. AI can also be unwieldy when it comes down to the study of joseki, given that they don't really care about the local result if they get enough compensation elsewhere. Which isn't a failing of bots, but for us humans it's easier to classify variations by their local result and then account for the whole board positions.Gomoto wrote:In actual analyzing soon you will have to use a combination of AI and Josekipedia (much more variations than the online go joseki dictionary)
