Why play this?
If you can have this!
And if you insist on move one at least continue like this
iacta alea est...

Re: Fight Club Augusta Vindelicorum
Maeda gave an answer years ago. You don't play the last play in the third diagram. At least not yet. You tenuki. That's why, Maeda said, you play the kosumi in the first place.Gomoto wrote:Why play this? If you can have this! And if you insist on move one at least continue like thisiacta alea est...

I have tried Maeda's strategy a number of times over the years, with mixed results.
The Adkins Principle:

Everything with love. Stay safe.

And the bot-opening-inspired-Uberdude response to Maeda would be, are you sure 5-5 for 3-3 is a good exchange? Why not tenuki immediately? If they 5-5 later to seal you in the corner you can still make a reasonable life there later (e.g. kick and 2nd line knights move). If tenuki is really a good move then you are either planning to play some sente sequence in a different area which is bigger for now before returning to this corner, in which case it's probably a bad exchange, or you plan to take gote elsewhere and don't mind white getting the next move in the corner, in which case you view 5-5 for 3-3 as a sente exchange making white's next move not as good as 5-5 surround, but is that actually so bad if you get another big gote and invite them to kill off the 4-4 (maybe too slow) and then you get sente again, or live in there later.
