London Open livestream

Post by Uberdude »

The top board from the London Open is being livestreamed on youtube, see https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCBGI3t ... H8IAsr6Ucw.

Round 5 starts at 10am GMT. Results so far at http://britgo.org/results/2019/london, in round 4 there was an upset with Lucas Neirynck 5d beating tournament favourite and sole >=6d player Lukas Podpera 7d. This forum's dhu almost managed the same, losing by half a point in round 3.

(I'm not doing so well though did get my first good win last round, and not a fan of the blitz overtime 10s Fischer increment).

If I read the livestream correctly, Lucas Neirynck lost his round 5 game against Zeyu Qiu, that makes things all the more interesting in the race for the top. I suppose the odds suggest that at the end of round 5 there will now be a 4-way tie.
I was mildly surprised that Lucas wasn't instead paired against Daniel Hu in round 5. Perhaps I am alone in that.

Daniel beat Lucas in round 6 by 2.5. Lukas surprisingly lost to Zeyu as well. The top 4 have all played reach other now so get easy games for last round so if things go as expected Daniel will win on SOS ahead of Zeyu.

My bad results got worse. I lost a reasonable game I was behind for much of but fought back so some ups and downs before blunder death at the end with Alessandro in the morning. But in the afternoon I lost a game against supposed Chinese 5d (but played some very odd slack moves) I was leading throughout because these clocks beep 5 4 3 2 Lose, not 5 4 3 2 1 Lose.

Is there a tiebreaker? I did not find any listed as a tiebreaker on the tournament page, but I presume that they are using SOS as it appears in the results page. Although that is a weak assumption as SOS appears by default with godraw.

SOS was tiebreaker, and no surprises in the final round so Daniel won. First British winner of the London Open since 1987!
