What does Dwyrin do with his life, aside from playing games online?

He's a professional youtuber. I wouldn't have the stamina.

Professional youtuber with 5k views per video? I didn't think it was possible.

He uses Patreon, so he may get some income from fan donations. But still, I suppose the income from his channel is not really enough to make a living.

I heard a heuristic somewhere that you might estimate that a youtuber gets 1~2 USD per 1000 views. So 5k views might result in 5~10 USD. Not sure if that’s accurate, because I’m not a youtuber.

I imagine he gets most of his income from Patreon. It doesn't show directly how much support he gets, but it does say he has 233 supporters. If they are all at the bottom tier of $2.99 then that is about $650/month, but he is 3 goals past the one listed as $1k a month and 77% to the eighth. I don't know how much the cost of living is wherever he lives, but it seems to me that's pretty plausibly enough to get by on.

The question to ask is how much an advertiser is willing to spend on e.g. 1k viewed ads?

Focussing on viewed ads and not videos views is important because the advertiser doesn't pay if people skip his ad or watch the video with an enabled ad blocker.

The second factor is ads clicked, which work somewhat as a bonus.

The third factor is the country of your viewers (rule of thumb: views and clicks by high income countries are worth more).

Then there a some more factors like the content of your video, the length of your video, the spoken language and even the upload time (compared to your competitors).

In a nutshell: You can't tell the youtuber's income based on his views.

Also, Dwyrin uses Twitch, so there are some bucks to count too.

Yeah, that was supposed to just be a heuristic. I've heard other higher figures - even up to ~10 USD per 1000 views. But it depends on several variables. At the end of the day, you don't know what someone is getting, like you're saying.

I am more interested in his go skill than his income.

I am a fan of dwyrin. I remember him saying a few months ago that his income from Go work was about minimal wage level,
whatever that means in the USA. He did visit Australia for a Go Congress but says that he can't
afford to attend many tournaments in the USA.
