Cheating scandal rocks Japanese go

I was just doing some editing and came across this sentence as part of a description of win & continue tournaments 100 years ago in the days of no-komi go:
This [system] guaranteed a reliable flow of games with varying players for the newspaper, and the reward for the players was that they picked up a game fee for every game they continued to play. There was thought to be some abuse. As ties (jigo) had to be replayed, any tied game was examined for engineering.
The solution adopted, of course, was the introduction of half-point komis.

Nothing new under the sun, eh?
