I recently started playing on GoQuest and I absolutely love it! I don't think I've ever played Go as much as I am playing now, after a long hiatus.
Only problem is I can't shake the feeling that I not actually playing Go. Are 9x9 skills transferable, or is the positional judgement too different to be considered a same game?
I play at 1800 on GoQuests which is comfortably within the top 10% of the player base. I am 2k on IGS so I feel like the percentile lines up. I still play 1 or 2 games of 19x19 a day.
Do you think sticking with GoQuest will improve my "real" Go?
Does 9x9 translate well into 19x19?

Re: Does 9x9 translate well into 19x19?
I'm pretty sure some aspects of my game have been improved. Spotting corner shapes for example. I find 9x9 very enjoyable on a mobile device. I'd play it even if there were no transferable skills to 19x19.
If something sank it might be a treasure. And 2kyu advice is not necessarily Dan repertoire..

In my limited experience, 9x9 is good practice for fighting. And for local fighting in the corners.
It may be insightful to know how 9x9 relates to 19x19. Here's my take: in 9x9 everything is a corner, actually, it's quite cramped.
As for the differences, you are missing out on having groups influence each other across the board, and trying to prevent the other player from growing his influence.
Definitely try 19x19, don't be afraid!
