Hi.

I bought a new iPad Air.
It is really, really amazing.

KataGo 40b runs at more than 130 eps.
minigo v17 is also boosted at more then 200 eps.
Other weight runs at almost double speed of A13.

A14 processor seems to have no bottlenecks by global pool layers, which slow down KatakGo and minigo weights on A13 or earlier.

Has anyone tried running this on one of the new Macs that should be compatible?

It should be compatible but I haven't released it on Mac App Store since I haven't confirmed whether it works well or not.
I will release it when I buy an M1 Mac.

Hello, Chinese users.

"A Master of Go" was removed from China App Store by Apple since they recognize the app as "Game".
I have no way to get registration number from China government.

Today I released a restricted version, "与围棋老师复盘".
You may find it by searching on App Store.
You cannot play a game with AIs but you can study a game with AIs.It is an educational app.

I will keep update this app together with "A Master of Go".

The differences between the last version of Chinese "A Master of Go" and "与围棋老师复盘" are follows.

. You cannot play a game with AIs
. supports multiple windows on iPadOS.
. supports Handoff.
. includes handicap stones for scoring in Chinese rule in consistency with AIs.
. improved settings UI.
. updated KataGo to v1.8.0.
. updated Leela Zero and SAI weights.
. improved showing a variation by long-press.
. supports KGF free handicap SGF.

Not so much differences, so you may hesitate to buy a similar app.
I will sell it at half price until 2/19.

I upgraded my copy to incorporate KataGo via the in-app store. Apple took my money. The program did not give me KataGo.

I tried deleting and re-installing the app. That didn't work.

On my iPhone I can click the "go to in-app store" and it just invites me to but the KataGo add-on again!. On my iPad the in-app click doesn't even work.

On the iPhone, when I go to the in-app page and click Restore, I get a message saying Katago is now unlocked. I see no evidence of that on my iPad. The iPad is not the latest but is not very old.

What's going on?

For the record, I sent a bug report and got an immediate response. The suggestion made was to install the latest version as a temporary fix, but the real problem will have to await the next version.

That worked - up to a point, Lord Cropper. It did not work at once. I only discovered it worked by trying again a little while later. I'm guessing there was a download going on in the background. But I expect a message telling me that. More important, I thought updates were done without any manual intervention, beyond telling the App Store app to go ahead and install the queue of updates.

I tried the app. I've become resigned to the fact that all apps are a Magical Mystery Tour, but this one has more mysteries than most. What's wrong with a simple page of instructions, for heaven's sake?

Among the so-far unresolved mysteries, I'll mention a few.

1. Once in a game I could find no way to get out of it except by resigning. Where's the magic button?

2. There's a scales icon. What is it?

3. There is a thumb-and-finger OK icon. What is it?

4. The scores/winrates are given in the following fashion:

74.6%(+24.4%pt)/5.0±24

I have no idea what %pt is meant to be. I'm guessing 5.0 is meant to be the score difference in points (as per Katago), but then what possible practical value is a score difference "between -19 and 29"?

5. I can see no way to paste an sgf. These two boxes are permanently greyed out.

6. Batch size? What's that?

A game will end when you resign, or an AI resigns, or both pass. No magic buttons.
At handicap game with default AI engine, the AI may miss the timing of resign if you beat it perfectly.
Please resign in such a case.
KataGo engine will treat such cases well.

It is for estimating score for default AI engine and is for visualization of territories for KataGo engine.

They are rates matching with AI's recommendation play moves.
If it shows high rate, it indicates that you are playing such as AI.

The value of %pt is the difference between previous and current winrates.
If it is a large negative value, you have played the wrong move.
If is is a positive value, you have played an excellent move at which AI is surprised.

You are right, 5.0 is a score difference and 24 is a standard deviation of the score.

You need to "copy" an SGF on other apps before pasting.
("Copy" means "copy" in "copy and paste" operation.)
Please "copy" an SGF and invoke the app. Then the buttons will be activated.

"Batch" is a jargon of deep learning.
Basically batch size means a degree of parallelisms to calculate neural network.
But currently it seems little performance boost. Please keep it as 1.

Yes, "与围棋老师复盘" is a restricted version of "A Master of Go".
All features except for playing a game are completely same.

Lately when I directly click .sgf file on my iPad it opens 2 clients of A Master of Go in split-screen mode. Any idea how to disable this? (the app is always fully closed when I do this, I think the other screen is where I left the app last time I used it). It used to ask my "Do you want to abandon your current study?", but it does not do it anymore. I think this changed for me ~1 month ago.

Since supporting multiple window, the behavior was changed.
When the last state of app is the state that main menu was opened on full screen, the app will open a file on full screen.
If the app is a state during playing or studying a game, the app will open a new window.

There is no options to disable it at present.

Some questions after stumbling over this program due to an advice in another thread:

1. Does Master of Go give you several choices (with % and playouts and colors for good (green) and not so good (red)) of moves like Lizzie?
2. Does Master of Go give u the chance to let AI play against itself, especially after loading a game to play for example AI vs. AI from move 15 on?
3. Is the AI stronger than Leela 20x256 (which I use right now)?
4. Are there any main differences between Lizzie/LZ (which I use now) and Master of Go?
5. The payment is 13 $, is it a one time payment and such one that you get all features at once?

Study mode on the app is quite similar to Lizzie. I implemented Lizzie-like UI by permission of Lizzie author.




You can "paste" an SGF string for game and can let AIs continue to play.




A14 iPad Air runs Leela Zero 40b weight at more than 140 nps, so maybe it runs 20b at more than 280 nps.
It runs KataGo 40b weight, which is optional item, at more than 120 nps.
But if your iPad/iPhone is older than A14 processor, it runs them at less than 70 nps.
If your iPad/iPhone is older than A12 processor, it runs them quite slowly.




The app was strongly inspired by Lizzie.
You may gat some comments from participants of this thread.




It is one time payment but KataGo engine is optional.
You need $9.99 to unlock KataGo engine. It is also one time payment.
If you are interested in scoring/estimating score, you need to buy virtual coins.

I have disabled to release the app for macOS for mainly two reasons.

1. I haven't confirm whether it works on M1 Mac since I don't have M1 Mac yet.
2. I have a plan to modify the layout for macOS. The current layout is for only iPad/iPhone.

And I don't decide that I will release it as a new version or as a new app. It depends on total amount of efforts for new layout.

When Apple will release a new MacBook Air with its weight under 1kg, I will definitely buy it then release the app.
Please wait for a while.

To open an SGF file, please use share button/menu on some filer app such as preinstalled "File" app.
When you open share menu, you will see the app icon to open the file.

Or if you want to save a game on the app as SGF, please use a share button on main menu of the app right after finishing studying the game.

Depending your device, every weight may play as super-human level except for reading ladders and handicap games.
Reading ladders needs many playouts, so you need to give enough time to AI.

Optional KataGo engine works well for both reading ladders and handicap games.
