Tracking pro eye movement
I recall reading years ago that researchers had aimed high-speed cameras at grandmaster's eyes when they played chess, and the things that they looked at were different than patzers. Has anyone done the same with go?

I heard that some research has been with tsumego, but it may have been with amateurs. Anyway, the good L&D solvers looked at potential eye points, while the bad solvers looked at where to put stones.

Re: Tracking pro eye movement
would be fun to try this yourself.
I did a quick search for some eye tracking software that can use a webcam as input.
I did find one that woks good for me, It woks fine in callibration mode.
Unfortunately I have no idea how to make the program work so I constantly
see a dot on the screen where I look. (to be able to solve tsumego, or play a game and see where i look)
the one I found is called gazetracker 1.6
edit. found the problem. I'll give it a try tomorrow. and post the results if possible

Re: Tracking pro eye movement
as promised I made a video of me trying this out.
Here is a link on youtube
It is not really accurate enough to get a good idea of the exact intersections, but gives some idea.
apparently I mostly look at the internal shapes and cuts. when you see me looking to the left it is
to check if it's B or W to play, or read some other info about the problem. It will work much better
with full screen on a 9-9 board. but this was just a test. I is also fun to see where you look when
watching a movie. This does not need great accuracy, but is a lot of fun.
conclusion:
Not very usable for accurate tracking of individual coordinates on a big board, but great fun for a few $$.

Re: Tracking pro eye movement
What software are you using to record the screen zoomed in like that? It looked smooth when panning over the screen.

Camtasia Studio.
The zoom feature is automated. normally I turn it off, but I forgot. This was a quick test anyway
Because it looked nice, I did not bother to take (edit) it out again.
