Thats what I meant about needing to really read ahead before playing a move like you did. In your last several moves, you have vacillated from escaping and living to trying to create a really complicated and unreasonable situation, then into wanting to sacrifice in a blink of an eye. Your thinking lacks consistency. If you read ahead you could have forseen this, and you could have made a sacrifice at much more favorable terms to you.
Well, it's a moot point since I don't want to go back. Though I'm sure that this is a lesson I can learn for future games. Reading ahead is something that I really need to get used to, and the way that I play chess doesn't help since I don't really read ahead there.
I'm somewhat comfortable with the situation on the board right now. So, even if I had gotten a "better result", I'm not sure I could have handled it better. I guess that comes with the territory of being weak .

With me, at least, I give people the benefit of the doubt in written conversation. Plus, it always helps when you have high hopes that you get brought back to reality. I'm probably going to never get as good as ANY professional in any game, but I can always hope. Isn't the possibility of improvement what makes us come back for more, even when we're sick of the particular game (not necessarily Go, but games in general.)? For me at least, that's the whole point.
Like you said, it is all about the proper mindset.

Okay, I some initial analysis, and the results were interesting. No, I haven't counted yet, and I don't want to. I think that the results would scare me. The main reason for this move is that I think that the bottom is relatively settled. Another reason is that he can't do much damage to my corner. If I were SinK, I'd be worried about the bottom right more than the bottom left. Plus, he still has to worry about my pincer stone.
And so forth, the ladder doesn't work, however I found that my group in the lower right would be severely hampered and it would have to scramble to find life. I feel that this would be terrible for me. I would feel cramped and behind the rest of the game and have to scramble to catch up. Bad idea.
Basically, my first idea that I had at the beginning with the high approach, I don't like it anymore. This is because I think that I need some quick cash. One reason I played the low approach over the high approach. Another is that I'm more comfortable with it.
A few reasons why I didn't like this. 1. He gets an approach on top to my top left stone.
A cursory analysis says that I'm already behind, and my goal is to at least make no more "obvious" mistakes, obvious to me that is. If he approaches my top left stone from the top, it's almost like handing him that side. That would be a no-no.
2. 'c' just doesn't feel right yet. I can't back this up with any analysis, but Araban said something about counting the number of spaces to the next stone, and that's the biggest move. Well, clearly the distance between to star point stones on the same side of the board is bigger than the one-point jump from the star stone to a star point stone on the other side.
3. My move feels more natural to me.

(Well, no idea if it's the best move, somehow one point lower looks like it would strengthen white too much and further to the right seems not hard enough on white's shape.) Next if white tries pushing to the right for more eyespace, black gets lots of points on the side. Escaping to the left will strengthen black's left group. Later on, it looks like black could get to build a nice framework towards the top and the side just by chasing that weak group. White's prospective territory on the top looks pretty thin so launching an attack there later on sounds possible, since he'll be too busy running away to defend his position there.
But it's gote and there are some big moves still to be played so I'll risk losing the corner in return for sente by skipping the attachment and just runnin away like a little girly girl with the knight's move.

Skipping the attachment and running away? No! No!
It is a common ddk mistake to think that the attachment is good here, perhaps that it protects the corner or attacks white. Neither is true, white will simply extend then jump to make a strong shape that black cannot attack. Later, white can generally take the corner anyway - the 3-3 invasion still works!
'Running away' is actually a much better idea. This is more flexible, and waits to see what white wants before committing to a plan that, whilst sente, makes poor shape and doesn't do what you want.
Honestly, I could have done this. However, I didn't read anything out, and I don't want too many weak groups. After his move, I'll assess the situation and come up with something to do.

This leaves a weak spot at a. In general, the three-space jump on the side is not as good as the two-space jump (x, or the super-long knight's move (x).

a - approach b - jump in c - extention d - invasion
In the absence of any urgent moves I need to see which is bigger. The invasion options are clearly smaller and can be immediately ignored.
The extension maps out about 21pts of territory and an enemy invasion here is at a rough estimate worth about 15pts to Suji. So we'll call it 36pts.
Similarly the jump-in is worth about 24pts to me (adjusted up for the fact that there is more room for expansion thanks to his unsettled corner in the north). but Suji's extention down the same side gains him 21pts by my count (see below)
[go]$$Wc I count 21pts for suji from this move. $$ --------------------------------------- $$ | . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . | $$ | . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . | $$ | . . . . . . . . . The approach harder to read out since it depends how he responds. I am tempted to make things complicated again by playing it and hoping for a pincer but b just seems too big and comes with the added bonus of almost certainly forcing me into attacking the bottom left hand corner.

Not a bad move, but I say black should attack the white groups on the bottom and build fortress on the right side. Attack when white invades, and use the strength to decimate the top. Could be wrong, it just seems as if both players are ignoring some urgent moves and playing big ones instead.
This is standard and since he'll want to do something about the corner I keep sente. Basically there isn't much else to look at I still want to play 3 in the diagram below but making a base for my invading stone is pretty important. I'm thinking something like:
Sticking to the plan by taking this massive point. All the corners are looking pretty open but maybe those are endgame points and linking various groups up is quite important to. I'll see what he does next.
Life was crazy the past month. My stake (church group) put on a play, and my mother was the stage manager. Also, without a car, I had to come and go with my mother and the place we practiced at had no internet and ate up lots of time.
Basically, I want to solidify my group down at the lower left. I want to save my pincer stone, but I must not rush it.
The reason behind my last move was to gain more territory.

I'm not that big on this knight's move, because of the risk of having it be cut later. At best, you'll probably have to defend it again later, and at worse you'll be cut off. A simple jump is probably safer here.
