If you lack the attention span to play Go but you like Go boards and stones, you can always do what these folks are doing ...

(try to knock your opponent's stones off the board)

Not recommended with slate & shell stones. Or any stones at all, for that matter... :o

It is quite popular in Korea. When I was staying at KBC for studying Baduk we had to play this game quite some times when a filmcrew was making just another documentary about Baduk schools but they did not want to show us playing a long game but show that we have quite some fun there to. ^^

It's like simplified crokinole, only with the extra excitement that pieces can shatter!

Seriously, this is on television?

Hmm, anyone care to explain the rules in detail? Looks like there is some time setting? and also some kind of penalty shooting
uh-oh, hope i don't get banned for this :-?

edit: uhh wait, the game has a name, SUG

try to imagine Lee Sedol and Lee Changho playing go with those silly flashbacks and everyone screaming "AHHHHHHH", "OHHHHHH" at every move.. gotta love these shows

just to make this clear: i still prefer the usual use of an expensive goban

Black and white get a pre-set number of stones. 3, 5 or 7. Black starts snipping one of his stones to kick of a white stone from the board with a special technique. Black and white take turns and whoever has no stones left on the board loses.

In this game it is a lot easier to kill your own stones than kicking of a opponents stone in a good fashion. ^^

Also there is handicap. If you lose a game the winner gets one stone less to play with.

Sounds much more suited for Chinese single-convex stones.

it looks like a game i saw being played by children sometimes in free time between tournament rounds (in Czechia).

you just use your stones to knock your opponent's stones of the board. whose stones are first all knocked out, lose. it can be played in multiple-round match, where both players start on even number of stones and winner of each round starts next round with one stone less (as a handicap), until one player win with only one stone

EDIT: adoreme was faster

Hey look, that's what humans first started doing when they found the go board, so the second time around the aliens had to leave instructions.
