Yeah, an "ignore topic" feature would be perfect, if it's possible.

It is not that I would not like to follow the Malkovich games, I just don't have time any more to do more than follow a couple of threads at a time in the forums.

In the user control panel there is the option "Manage subscriptions". Wouldn't it be possible to add subitems "ignore forums" and "ignore topics"?

I remember with great pleasure looking at Joaz vs. Sol, I'm afraid we won't see such an interesting thread, fulfilling its teaching goals, with lots of intervention from all levels players, again.

We'll see.

Maybe you haven't been paying enough attention. I haven't yet seen a malkovitch game that wasn't in some way insightful.
Patience, grasshopper.

That's not the point. The sheer number of games becomes overwhelming.
To sig or not to sig, that is the question.

I think it may also be mentioned in passing that we are seeing the same level of infestation (may we call it?) on Sensei's Library with Wu Ren Go and BQM. It's a bit like schoolkids on public transport at home time. They are not misbehaving but their sheer numbers and boisterousness are offputting to the other passengers.

I hereby claim the prize for the first Grumpy Old Man post on L19.

Another way I think this situation could be handled is that, when one goes to click on "View unread/unanswered/new posts", there is 1 topic under "Topics" simply called "Malkovich games" which is collapsable/expandable and has a "Mark all as Read" button. When one clicks on it, then it will show the unread/unanswered/new Malkovich-related posts.

To use John Fairbarn's example, this would take the schoolkids and put them in their own playarea while keeping them observable from a distance rather than making them invisible altogether (what the ignore feature would do) :D.

Thanks John, made me laugh despite my guilt at being a schoolkid :D

And I'm sure you meant "enthusiasm" when you said "infestation" ;)

Disagreed. Why treat Malkovich games as something special with some kind of an all-or-nothing option? There might be other topics people like to ignore*. Filtering topics individually is all it takes.

*only temporarily. of course. Hey, who just said 'rules discussion'? :-)

Well, filtering topics is good, but filtering sub-forums would be useful too...

Agreed, didn't mean to speak against that. The whole point is that some general filtering options would be fine and that Malkovich games need no special treatment.
