Where is OGS??
Since we now have a place to talk about turn based servers, I will start us off with the question that got this forum created: What's happened to OGS, and when will it be back?

Re: Where is OGS??
Now I get a different message when I try to access the site:
Could not connect to DB: Too many connections
instead of:
Bonjour,
Un problème technique sur un de nos serveurs nous oblige à bloquer tous les sites.
Revenez plus tard.
Désolé pour le désagrément,
L'équipe technique de nainwak.

Re: Where is OGS??
It was renamed: the Offline Go Server.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Re: Where is OGS??
This is the longest that I can remember it going down without some kind of information. Sad day.

Re: Where is OGS??
It is up now, but most of my games timed out so I hope they are still working on it.

Re: Where is OGS??
Yes... back online now, but hopefully the admins will adjust the clocks. One of my opponents timed out -- I won't claim the win, of course. That was a long one, I must say. Probably worse because it started on a Friday.
Edit: I wistfully recall a time when topazg was a lowly Kyu player and spent his time keeping OGS alive and well.... Extended down times never happened back in those days.

Well, the OGS admin has already added time to clocks and restarted the timed out games, so I can't confirm this, but: As I recall, when a player times out, the OGS system waits for the other player to claim the win. (I'm a bit uncertain because I think maybe this doesn't apply to tournament games.) Anyway, this allows the "winning" player to use judgment about the timeout -- maybe the timed out player has always been very prompt, so you think something may be preventing him/her from getting online.
In this case, I saw in my games list that my opponent's remaining time was "Timed out". But it was still in the game list, not removed, as it would have been if I won. So, I left it there, given the 3-day down time.
