GS Caltex Cup

Post by emeraldemon »

I was rooting for Park Yeonghun in this one, but he wasn't able to pull it off. It's a really exciting game though, lots of intense life and death:

It's ok, he'll get a rematch vs. Won Sungjin in the Myeongin soon enough. I look forward to seeing it.

edit:

What's up with B193? Why not just block at B17?

I'm not sure - if he's behind it's only by 1/2 point or so, so I wouldn't think he needs this ko. Maybe he overlooked it thinking white would play the monkey jump. The move he makes instead is 9 points gote.

Really cool game, I'm in awe over the second half of this game! At move 97, I really thought black was ahead. He had more territory and was running in between two white groups nicely. After move 128, I thought that even more. And then, somehow, white pulls off a really big fight in the top center area. Nice!

If black would block at 193, I think the endgame will be decided by the ko in the top right corner. That ko is huge and the territories are quite close. But white will then get a few extra ko threats around O12. Also, blocking like that just feels a little submissive for top-level professional standards, they tend to really go all out on each other nowadays. I guess black decided that he couldn't win that way, and chose to go all or nothing.
My name is Gijs, from Utrecht, NL.

When in doubt, play the most aggressive move
