Of course, this website is not my own website. I know GoGoD owners well and I respect their work.

Reason why it's possible to see some of my links in the footer of some Go sites: I contact site owners often and we discuss their benefit from putting my links. As a result my personal website, for example, is on the first page in Google under "go lessons", "go teacher", "go lectures", etc
It helps me to attract new Go students

Over the years, I have purchased many pieces of Asian Go literature, Kido yearbooks, game collections, fuseki dictionaries, and whatnot - have a full shelf of that stuff at home, was a small fortune. If I had purchased GoGod, I would not buy all this other stuff, would I? And thus all the other publishers would lose my business. Multiply that by the number of all people who already bought GoGoD and I am sure that the cumulative impact is not trivial, even though to the Asian publishers might be negligible... for now. I guess this is why they insist you do not distribute in Asia. But what about any potential western publishers who could do something but instead thing 'eh, why bother, people will just buy GoGoD and I will lose money'.

Bantari - you're comparing apples and potatoes. If the included games is only reason that you or anyone else has to buy all those Asian go books and magazines, then indeed, GoGoD would have been a better deal. This of course is hardly the case. But while we're at it, GoGoD also offers significantly more than just the games, so for those who've been relying on "free" game records and those who have other sources of games as well, it's still worth making the relatively small investment.

These game records ARE the only reasons I have invested in these Asian books. They are useless to me otherwise since I don't read (nor speak, nor understand) these languages. Once I invest in GoGoD I will probably not purchase any of these books anymore. I can hardly believe I am the only one who views it like that. To me, it is certainly not 'apples and potatoes'. In this case, game records are the only reasons I paid (or would pay.)

If your other argument is that GoGoD offers much more than just game records, and it is worth buying it regardless of the game records (which I possibly agree with), then I really do not understand the claim that offering the game records for free will 'destroy' GoGoD.

My misassumption! Since the material you describe contains much more than the game records - articles, problems, pictures etc., I assumed you wanted those things as well; and also that you preferred your material in book form - otherwise, why wouldn't you just have bought GoGoD?

My comment about the additional material was meant to encourage folks to buy GoGoD despite some of the games being available for free. Nonetheless, while added material might undermine the argument that piracy endangers GoGoD it does not negate it. GoGoD is a work in progress, and as I said in a previous post, the so-called "soft fact" of piracy could cause those responsible for making the transcripts available to rethink their policies.

Just out of curiosity, what are the current copyright laws for game records in China, Japan, Korea, and Taiwan?
