Looking for Japanese Books

[Perception]

Sometime in December I'm going to be going to New York and I'll probably stop at Kinokuniya sometime while I'm there. So if you can recommend any Japanese Go books or book stores other than Kinokuniya where I can look that would be very helpful.

It's unfortunate that the NY Go Center won't be open when I get to go to New York though

Also if there are any other Japanese books that aren't Go related that I should look out for suggestions are welcome.

It can take Kinokuniya up to a month to get books, so you might want to call ahead. They're unlikely to stock any of the go books you would want to pick up.

Oops... sorry, missed that fact. Maybe if you go back in the future you can use it.

If you're planning to buy 6-7 books anyway, amazon.co.jp does come in at same price or cheaper. I often buy bundles of about 10-15 books with a friend here.

Your blog was actually very helpful. Most of the books seem quite interesting and some of them are available at Kinokuniya so now I know what to look for.

Yes I own all the books on my blog. The items shown on "go sighting" are another matter. A few are mine but most are not.

So today I went to New York. Kinokuniya was great, first I was surprised at the number of English language go books that they had which turned out to be more than they had in Japanese, then I found the Japanese Go books which were tucked away in a corner downstairs.

I ended up getting the three books that I linked to in my last post although there were quite a few other books that I would have liked to get as well, I didn't have that much money. Sometime soon I'll probably have them order some of the other books that I wanted to get but were out of stock and take another trip to New York after the holidays.

I didn't even realize they had Japanese go books. I'll have to look next time. Any tips on finding them?

Yeah. The Japanese books are mostly downstairs, I think the section the Go books were in had a sign marked Hobbies and the shelves that the Go books were on were marked Igo （囲碁）. This was on the far right side of the room from the stairs where the language books are directly in front of the stairs.

If you can't find them still, I'm sure you can ask someone on the staff, they should know where they are.

There weren't that many though and it was mostly tsumego, life and death, and tesuji problems. There were some Shogi books too on the same bookshelf as the Go if you're interested in Shogi.

Amazon Japan has one of the volumes of the Segoe Tesuji Dictionary in stock and the publishers website also lists two of the volumes as out of stock.

Neither of the volumes of the Fujisawa Tesuji dictionary are in stock at Amazon Japan and they aren't listed on the Nihon Kiin's website with the Fuseki and Joseki dictionaries.

I believe at least the first volume of Segoe is OOP.

Both are currently out of print. I'm guessing the Nihon Kiin will be releasing a new tesuji dictionary like they have for fuseki and joseki.

The Segoe one has had a few reprintings before, and I wouldn't be surprised if it happened again.
