Recently there have been a few trolls on the board, and the admins have at least once deleted the initial trolling post but left the subsequent discussion in place. This means that the thread author becomes the first person to respond, which does not really make sense. See viewtopic.php?f=18&t=2618 if the description is not clear: Redundant is responding to a troll whose post has been deleted.

Probably the solution is to not delete the first post while keeping the thread, or if it must be done, leave the original post in place, but replace its content with [trolling deleted by moderator] or somesuch.

Thanks for explaining that! I was wondering what had posessed Redundant to start such a discussion. :)

Ooops! My bad. I didn't forsee that side effect.

We've had a flurry of trolls popping up in the last week, and I - and probably other admins - have been deleting them and their posts. There is an option on the admin control panel to delete the user and all of his posts in one stroke, and I've been using that when it is obvious that all the posts are troll posts.

However, upon a few seconds reflection, I may continue handling it this way.
It seems fitting that the first person to respond to a troll now gets the blame. That'll teach 'em.
