Trouble saving games with Drago 4.11

Post by daal »

Greetings,

I have been having trouble saving games with Drago 4.11.

What I want to do is: find a specific game in my GoGod Database, save it in a different folder with a different name.

Problem: The saved game is not the one I wanted.

What I have been doing: I open Drago, click "search in database," enter the names of the players in the Game information search window. On the bottom left of that window, I click the middle button : "view results in game information list." Then based on either the date or the result, I find the game and double click it. The correct game opens in a tab still titled: GoGoD.db.

Now something wrong happens. I then click "save as" and save the file. In Drago, a new tab opens with the name I gave the game, but the game is a different one (namely the first game from the results list), and the file saved to disk is also this wrong game. The correct game is still open in Drago under the first GoGoD.db tab, but I have not managed to save it.

What am I doing wrong?

You are using the wrong version of Drago :geek:
there is a new version 4.12

a\nd i think one of the problems was saving files.
PS i am not sure if this problem is solved in the newest version.

(there was a similar problem when opening files/ opening folders and saving a single game of it)

It's not a bug, it's a feature!

Actually, the Save and Save as commands save the content of the current tab, not the current game. Never realized it could be confusing.

If you want to save a single game from a tab:
  • if it is a database tab, you can narrow your search until leaving the game of interest
  • from any tab: File > Collections > Extract current

That said, could you confirm you saved the content of your search tab and not only the first game?

Gilles,

Thanks for your quick response.

Ok. Now that you've explained it, I think I understand, but it does seem to me a bit counter-intuitive. It would make more sense to me if double-clicking on a game would open that game in a separate tab. But perhaps this isn't the place for feature suggestions :)

If you want to save a single game from a tab:
  • if it is a database tab, you can narrow your search until leaving the game of interest
I find this a bit cumbersome.

  • from any tab: File > Collections > Extract current
  • Although this works, when the game opens in a new tab, the tab does not show the name of the file. Another problem is that I would never have discovered this option if you hadn't told me.

That said, could you confirm you saved the content of your search tab and not only the first game?
Yes, all the games were saved in one huge sgf file. Not sure what this is good for, but I guess all features aren't for everybody. :)

Drago handles collections (either multigame files, folders, databases or database results) in tabs. Double-clicking stays in the tab. I could add a right click menu with a Open game in another tab command.

Although this works, when the game opens in a new tab, the tab does not show the name of the file.
There is no file yet, just a game in a tab, therefore no filename.

Another problem is that I would never have discovered this option if you hadn't told me.
I admit this is a problem.

all the games were saved in one huge sgf file. Not sure what this is good for
Imagine you want in a single sgf file all games played by your favorite player including the position you want to study.

All your comments make sense and I will keep in mind the need to extract a single game more easily.

This seems like a good idea. While trying to open a game in another tab, I right-clicked to see if a menu was available.
