Black missed the play at 'a', so white had one more chance to prevent it like this:

Unfortunately, white seems over-focused on killing the corner.

Although the biggest move by either side would probably be the tenuki to 'b'. :o

So...this is exactly what I had planned several moves ago...but now I see it on the board I realise it's terrible! Not sure what I was thinking here...almost tempted to tenuki, do something constructive elsewhere rather than continuing with this mess, but then my whole upper group would likely die, and the game would be as good as finished I suspect...so no option but to fight on.

I don't get that move, I would have cut on the other side. White can't let black connect and he still has the cut aji at C13. Now I don't see how black can live with either group.

Resign.

Thanks for the game, Mnemonic! And thanks to observers for their comments, which I look forward to reading.

Unfortunately my circumstances have changed recently and I can't make it to a computer often enough to play - but I think Mnemonic has the upper hand anyway.

Cheers!

Thanks for the game Koroviev. I think you had the lead early on after some pretty bad blunders of mine but the game swung in my favor after you let me cut of your big group.

Because I have gotten stronger of the past months I have included a self review, strangely enough I criticize almost every move in the beginning and none toward the end

Mnemonic:

i would like to advocate w4 at E3, in my opinion it is perfectly fine move to play, countering influence of black's nirensei. though you of course don't have to be a fan of such move, D3 is even more common. on the other hand C5 looks a bit unusual to me, with the open side against black stones, but it may well be also playable.

i also wanted to add something about w16-18 but i can't decide what to think about it :). i guess, if it were my game, i would just pincer without E17-F16 exchange (as i already wrote during the game)

what do others think about w16 at E17?
Spilling gasoline feels good.

I might be wrong, but probably not.
