Tournament

Post by Ramen1 »

Hi everyone! I rarely ever post here, I was on GD for a short time as well(its good to be back here and playing go).

There is a tournament just about 1 month away and I was wondering what all of you would recommend to be a good prep.

I wasnt sure where to post this because I dont know my rank,(i still consider myself a beginner) but I think im somewhere between 11-18k if that makes a difference?

If you know the time control of the tourney,
you can start (or continue) to play online games with similar time controls,
or, if you have a physical timer, do the same with opponents in person.
It is good practice to get used to hitting the timer buttons, watching your clock,
managing your time (opening, mid-game, endgame, etc.), and even picking up captured stones
under time pressure.
For an extra challenge, you can even give yourself LESS time than the tourney time control, as a training idea.
Good luck. :)

Try playing a few games with too few handicap. Does the tournament use no handi for people within 3 ranks of you?

It can be very difficult to deal with stronger players if you're not used to having a little disadvantage. Try the inverse, too, if you can. Overconfidence kills us all.
