I was listening to that at work and was thinking the exact same thing.

Wow I guess a lot of people on here play Starcraft also. Is there a poll yet about what race everyone plays? I wonder which race would make the most sense to a go player.. or if there are style similarities between go and starcraft.

Well, CSamurai expressed that protoss appealed to the go player in him, since observers could best approximate 'perfect information'. I, on the other hand, favor Zerg because it allows me to both play reactively and to harass, to take control and guide the course of the game. So it really does seem to depend on how you draw the analogy. Additionally, in lieu of a poll, check the other starcraft thread. It has a link to a go player league, which, I think, shows the races of all of the players.

I play Protoss because all the units are baller. Except the Zealot, which I think is completely overrated.

Yeah, I also play Protoss. The zealot is good in the crazy Korean 4-gate rush for PvP... otherwise I like Stalkers/Voids usually.

I play Protoss, which I chose because the units and abilities seemed fun and interesting, especially force fields. I can't believe fwiffo doesn't like Zealots--I'm in love with them! They tear to pieces anything they come in contact with. Now, actually getting them to come in contact with something is easier said than done, but that's the fun part.

That's my issue with them exactly. It's not so much that I think they're bad, I just think they're overrated. They're too easily neutralized for how bad-ass they're supposed to be. People talk about their "insane" DPS without considering how easily they're kited. Melee units always have a way lower effective DPS unless they're super-fast like speedlings. Hopefully the fix to charge in 1.3 (and the build-time nerf for stim) will fix them.

It feels to me like charge is underused. If speedling speed is almost a requirement for zerg no matter what build you're going, why would a similar boost to zealots not be as key? Obviously, there are differences in the favor of speedlings, like the speedling boost works out-of-combat. However, charge reduces the single biggest downside of zealots, so I'm always surprised when I see a zealot-heavy army without it, or even one that researches blink.

Charge is twice as expensive in both gas and minerals compared to stim or zergling speed, and requires an extra building, which makes it a lot harder to get early. For metabolic boost, you already have the spawning pool, and a techlab is a lot cheaper than a twilight council. All the follow-up twilight tech is gas-heavy, so squeezing in a 200/200 upgrade is hard. If you're going early twilight, blink is usually what you want to get first because it's cheaper and you can make better use of it in the early game. There are lots of people using blink stalker openings; I don't know of anyone using fast chargelots. Later in the game though, the charge+storm is amazing.

(Of course, I am not strong enough to be talking about any of this, but it makes sense to me).

Junshin, have you tried the IMYongHwa 3-Stalker Robo build? I've been having a lot of success with it on ladder against 4-gate. The only current ladder map you can't do it on is Scrap Station, since the ramp is too big to forcefield. (The back door Delta Quadrant poses an issue as well, but you might be able to solve that by walling off the back ramp; I'm not sure yet.)

The one that Artosis posted a video of? If that's the one, then yeah I have...it's a cool build, but there's two things I don't like about it. I find that when I do this build and that the opponent 3 gate robo's instead of 4 gate (sometimes it's hard to tell because in both instances they can accumulate a lot of CBs), then I am behind. Secondly, I find that this build is really restricted to smaller to medium sized maps; on larger ones (and the stranger ones like Scrap) I think the build is less effective because the proxy pylon is harder to find. I think this build really only shines if you know for absolute certainty that the opponent is 4-gating and the map isn't too large.

Was very impressed with ThorZAIN, FD just looked totally outplayed; and once + always will be a Tyler fan :). Also, I thought the ruling they had for the disconnect in g1 between BoxeR and NightenD was very interesting: http://www.teamliquid.net/forum/viewmes ... _id=202554

Yeah, it's very difficult for me to swallow the idea of awarding a win to the disconnecting player, but their extremely thorough analysis left me feeling sympathetic to the decision and appreciative of the effort they put into making it and explaining it. You don't see that very often from tournament officials in any sort of game.

Re: TSL 3

I was thinking the same thing. I initially thought "well, I think Boxer had it won, but I wonder what sort of standard they have to make that kind of ruling." And it seems like they have a very serious, well-thought-out standard.

Good job by ThorZAIN, but now my bracket is all messed up! The only foreigner I had beating a Korean is Jinro against Boxer in a later round.

Switched back to Zerg (from Random) and simultaneously changed to a different hotkey setup...

I've posted instructions on how to vote for/order the Starcraft keys in the geekhack.org thread.

Just a reminder, the deadline for ordering these is Wednesday, 23rd March 2011, 20:00:00 GMT. The guy managing the group order is back from vacation so everything is moving forward. It looks like we'll be producing two different size keys for all three races plus random. One will be the right size and profile to replace your Esc key (or any single-width key on the top two rows), and one will be the right size to replace your Windows keys (or any of the other modifiers on that row the same size). Some race/size combinations will be more expensive if they don't get up into the higher price breaks.

Here are the current prices; as you can see, they get a lot cheaper as the quantity goes up.
Code:
SCWINTERRAN...............40 (Starcraft Terran-Shield 1.25 mod.) ($4/35 #1)
SCESCTERRAN...............28 (Starcraft Terran-Shield funct.) ($3/25 #1)
SCWINPROTOSS..............55 (Starcraft Protoss-Standard 1.25 mod.) ($3/50 #1)
SCESCPROTOSS..............39 (Starcraft Protoss-Standard funct.) ($3/25 #1)
SCWINZERG.................40 (Starcraft Zerg simplified 1.25 mod.) ($4/35 #1)
SCESCZERG.................34 (Starcraft Zerg simplified funct.) ($3/25 #1)
SCWINRANDOM...............14 (Starcraft Random 1.25 mod.) ($8/15 #1)
SCESCRANDOM...............18 (Starcraft Random funct.) ($3/25 #1)

Again, these are for Cherry MX mechanical keyboards. That includes Filco Majestouch, Razer Blackwidow, Steelseries 6Gv2 and 7G, Rosewill RK-9000, Leopold, and quite a few other keyboards.
