Chinese Championship produces candidate for game of the year

Post by sixko »

ChessBase says a game played between Zhao Jun (2580) and Xiu Deshun (2508) at the recently held CC makes their short list for game of year. An awesome game indeed, here it is with comments:

and the final article on the championship:

Where've you been? Zatoichi could slice the board in half, put it back together again and rearrange the position so fast that no-one even knew he'd drawn his sword - and he was blind. ~ John Fairbairn

This is crazy to admit, because I live in the US, but I'm not all too familiar with the tactics used in Chess. I'm familiar with the movement of the pieces and the setup and the overall goal, but I reckon I'd get destroyed effortlessly by anyone.

However, I can appreciate this game. It looked pretty good. But with my limited knowledge it's hard for me to comment too much.

That was a really nice sacrifice to open up the attack. Thanks for posting that.
