I really enjoy reading your updates 1986, it's inspiring to see your enthusiasm and love of the game. Good luck with your new 'Zen' approach to winning and losing... I aspire to take the same attitude to my games (and life) but it's tough to actually put into practice in the heat of the moment.

KGS: go1986
wbaduk 21 kyu 5400 /KGS 9 kyu
problem #157 46 right first try

the update:
my new approach to go is working out a lot better for me i play better
when i don't look at rank, time or score i just play
all i look at now is the board;
so i am missing comments
but my go is better becuase of it

my current go habits are
tsumego & actual games & watching good players play &
im also following Magic Wand's malkovich games, its great

i play alot more on my phone with on cyberoro & IGS
i'm currently 17 kyu IGS & 20 Kyu cyberoro
also im doing go problems on my phone & watching pro games
im just on my phone so much because of school
but i still get my go in

i was watching some professionals play on cyberoro blitz
it was funny because they used almost all their 30 seconds
each move but when you watch a 7 Dan play blitz the pace of the game is much faster
that taught me to slow down

realbaduk.com has a good mobile site
so i can read little articles n stuff on my phone
it has some good stuff on counting i have been reading up on
check it out if your always on your phone like me

i haven't got to my lectures or the test room on wbaduk.com
in a minute i will get back to it soon though
i have been playing alot of go, its too much fun

also i have been on gocommentary.com
great videos to watch & great explanations
the Longshi game is my favorite
one day soon i will get GOGOD and go through more
of his games i like his style
"the best defense is a good offense"
its amazing to see the ancient games
because they look so modern

i want to learn more about Longshi but i cant find anything online...

anyways gotta get ready for the day, see ya :study:

i haven't posted any games in a minute

this was yesterday wbaduk

after talking to my opponent i found out he was EGF 13 kyu
he said i was probably like 15 kyu EGF

i was going to ask why he was two stones stronger than me but then my second thought was
who cares anyway

i told him i was 9 kyu KGS & he says KGS rankings are soft on Kyu players & hard on Dan players
and IGS has better a ranking system, all round.

i got a chance to share my philosophy on how kyu ranks don't matter and when you reach shodan on any main server it all seem to even out anyway, so why bother

i ended up wining he made a great comeback at one point i was ahead by 100 points, i got lazy and overconfident and in a few moves it was back even, so it was fun

KGS: go1986
im 20k 6000 points YAY
im still on problem 157
but i have been doing tsumego
on the wbaduk.com website
not the test room but the lectures
i have been hitting the text lectures pretty hard lately
working on vital points & maek and peeking at the dan level haengma
lectures just to see what goes on in there its pretty good stuff
i cant wait to get there

Also, i have been trying to play a good game to get a review
to see what areas i need work on besides the obvious everything
so i get my mind ready to play the most solid game i can play so i can get a review
and i win, by resignation no less &
its funny because i win more when i don't think about wining
but lately when i loose by resignation i already know why i lost,
and i don't feel its review worthy and just embarrassing

I can usually spot my mistakes. even though they are simple mistakes i think everybody can spot such as; reading mistakes, wrong direction, picking a stupid fight i should have left alone, or hey i didn't see that, or just plain got surrounded

i just want to lose by 1 points and really learn something in a detailed review from one of my games

so i got on KGS after i re-downloaded it and got what i asked for
I played a free game with a 8 kyu and lost by komi it was GREAT, i had fun and now i got a few ideas on how to improve my game

here is the game and let me know what u think?

i was kind of down in spirits since i just found out i have to go to jail at the end of the month
over a stupid drunken bar fight me and my friend got into it
with a some idiots
we have 30 days at the end of the month over it
bummer-

so i been running around making arraignments with my teachers and getting my main grades in line

i will have to do a few make up tests but now that my school will not be effected and I'm not in danger of academic probation i feel much better now

but while I'm in jail i do have a chance to get stronger at go-
i have been thinking about it and i got a few ideas to make my time pass by faster

i got

This Is Haengma
Author: Kim Sung-rae and Sung Ki-Chang
-yutopian

Fundamental Principles of Go
Author: Yang, Yilun
- slate & shell

Think Like a Pro: Haengma
Author:by Yun Yeong-seon
-yutopian

and Yi Chang Ho's life & death series

that should be enough to keep me busy :D

I'm getting them mailed to me inside -

I'm in good spirits now

as far as my progress goes since my last post

i have been playing white more in handicap games
its not as hard as i thought now i see that the handicap is there because they need it. so the games are about even in the middle game the opening is just odd

i actually ended up giving my first review because of it
was a low handicap where i was white
and i just wanted to show the guy why he lost
there where basic mistakes i felt like i could point out

that's was award because i don't think I'm qualified to teach I'm a beginner myself but i tried to help a little and i use to do the same stuff 3 moths ago

i went through the go dojo again- i tired the great wall out it was weird
i think my opponent was more confused than me
it was fun though
my goal was to dominate the center and take whatever else i can
here's the game

that was a crazy game
i thought he would have won if i didn't get the big kill
but i reviewed it on smartgo
and realized i was wining by 2.5 points anyway
TALK ABOUT FIGHTING SPIRIT! :rambo: :rambo: :rambo: :rambo:

i have been doing tsumego on go grinder
in between classes and in my downtime
I'm currently at 66 % on master the basics
its about 1000 problems on basic tsumego
and tesuji I'm on number 77

i haven't had much time to stay on the computer i got a lot of work to do thank god for the Iphone

also i have been working through commented games on a actual board
its just like a pro malkovitch game I'm learning a lot from working through them

i have one game memorized because i went through it so much

between pro-games and tsumego and actual games and go books
i found a life long hobby that i enjoy more than call of duty black ops

i feel like one of the characters off of Hikaru
like the toya mejin he was proud of his go
he said something like "let me show you my go
the go of toya mejin"
now I'm like let me show you my go
the go of Everett Wright

I'm addicted to it

what doesn't kill you only makes you stronger

Back to school :study:

hope your jail time passes without major problems. you have a life outside to go back to and a month out of routine is about right to contemplate about many things. (though probably not enough time to found a go club there.)

take care

Well after a few days of dusting off the ol desktop & getting my groove back I can tell I have gotten better but I'm still hungry for more understating

I'm 19k on cyberoro not wbaduk
I been on my iphone a lot more
I went from 17k to 14k on tetsuki
Those DGS guys are strong I
Learn alot from losing slowly
I started off 10k now I'm 14k
It was ugly at first but I'm fighting my way back up

I have been hanging out in the Internet go school & love it! Gou Juan has the best lectures IMO

I been thinking about singing up for KGS plus too I hear good things every-time I'm on KGS about some cool lecture I'm missing out on!

Even though the euro outweighs the dollar it's still a cheap investment. For Gou's lectures; I even plan on adding more money to my account and doing the one year membership. So I can watch a lecture everyday!

I still haven't got to the pro game reviews and she has 600+ lectures to watch. So much info to soak up for the kyu player.

I took lectures on the Chinese opening, typical mistakes 10k-1d
Opening and middle game training b level 10k-1d.

Besides that

I do 20 tsumego a day & if I get it wrong it doesn't count so I end up going throughout 37 problems until I solve 20 perfectly
I have been doing tsumego on go grinder
My current ratio is 79.6% I'm doing a set from mastering the basics I found online

My daily tsumego became habitual like my daily prayer now I don't have to remind myself I do them every morning

I have been playing guess the next move on smartgo pro to study pro games.
it's just like opening and middle game training in the Internet go school you look
for the best move. :)

I use to suck and never play guess the next move but now I'm much better and it's more fun. I like games from Rui Naiwe i hope that's spelled right; but her style is aggressive and solid.

I want to get on tygem but I miss wbaduk so much especially the lectures & the test room and the little applet with all those tsumego. So I think I will stick with KGS and wbaduk for learning purposes.

Oh yeah I'm going to Denver for a week, next week &they have 3 go clubs. I plan on representing!

I have a year membership as well. However, I would advice against starting with opening and joseki lectures for the time being. I would go for the basic stuff first. (Counting, endgame, controlling the center, typical mistakes, sacrificing stones, handicap games and others.)

I have been in study mode since my last post as u already know My hyperbolic time chamber Consist of:

Reading go books & watching lectures

Currently I'm studying Yang's Fundamental principles And watching Gou's lectures in the Internet go school

Study pro games

I'm going through O Rissei's catch a scent of victory

Tsumego

20 correct first try's everyday Currently I'm reading out 7 kyu problems I remember when I would have trouble with 12 kyu tsumego. It's a good feeling

play serious games

KGS I'm still 9 kyu I'm not satisfied with my rank so I will be playing more on KGS I'm 18 kyu on cyberoro I ranked up around 4 days ago

Get those games reviewed

this is the area I'm Slacking in the most I get some good reviews from l19's own Oren whenever I'm on KGS but I haven't been posting games in game analysis or playing in the KGS teaching ladder or sending games to go teaching ladder either.

I have been doing self review & It's not good enough, I can find mistakes but I still need some Dan level eyes to go over it too Because I miss all kinds or stuff

When I give control to a stronger player 4 review. I'm in amazement & sometimes the variation is a big juicy kill and those are my favorite kind.

I'm still going to Denver for a week I did some research and found the Havana go center is going to be the closest club in my area and it's open everyday I can't wait. :)

Well I got work to do I gotta find a good game so I can learn something new

See ya around!

Nothing against review from stronger players, but if you notice one mistake in each game and don't repeat it after noticing it ten times, you will still be better than most. (Who don't review and don't change despite noticing their mistakes.)

Life is good

I'm on the 5k problem set on smartgo

my ration is 40% it sounds bad but it's great to get some of them right

Since I get 40% of the problems right the first time that motivates me to get the rest of them

I finished fundamental principles of go by mr.Yang

I studied it like a text book rather than just read it like a novel.

I love the way he words stuff. that book gets 5 stars personally a great study for kyu players

Now I'm on this is Haengma

I like to watch a lecture everyday from internetgoschool.com

People watch tv everyday
This is better

I'm going through catching a scent of victory on smartgo books, in 3 words, It is beautiful. It's not like a ordinary commented game book it's like a instructional book with illustrative games showing you the thought process of a professional player, Man it's good!

I'm playing a maklovitch game with robinz and I got a few DGS games going.

I have not been on KGS lately but my schedule is back open so I'll have more time for KGS I'm always on cyberoro on my phone

I'm on my iPhone all day and all night I think it replaced my computer it does so much but I'm still missing out on KGS and my wbaduk tsumego, & internetgoschool.com ,so my computer doesn't feel neglected

Oh yeah they got that one app with java now so u can play KGS on the istuff but I got enough apps i think I got 13 go apps and a game clock lol

That's pretty much my update I have been in study mode well i must get back to my love

I didn't find anobody in denver to play a live game with
i left before the weekend and the other two go clubs met on sasturday & sunday; so i missed them :(

i was so busy up there i didn't even get a chance to check igolocal!

At first i was sad and then i thought, so what!
it is still a fun game and i hardly play live games anyway, & there is always the congress so one day ill use my go board for something besides studying lol

well after my brief week off
i have jumped back into my tsumego program
it took a while to get the rust off but im
running smoothly again currently
im on the 5k set on smartgo
these problems are pretty straightforward
im not doing as bad i thought i was
i still solve 20 a day perfectly
so if i miss one it does not count
i got through 38 wrong to get 20 perfect today to give you a idea
of where im at

im kneee deep in my maklovitch game,
im working out variations like crazy lol
i think after the game and i go through it again
and reading everything wrote
i will have alot of good study material

im not playing as much online as i ususally do
i have been playing DGS though,
its works good with my schedule right now
its so easy to keep up with

i have been into pro games lately, i do alot of
commented games on smartgo books, and play guess the next move on my phone in my spare time

i have been reading go world
the 20 kyu to shodan articles
its just me and my go board
working out the diagrams

the korean innovations in joeski are pretty interesting also

IMO GWA is to expensive to buy and dont use i gotta get my money's worth out of my go stuff, thats been my attitude lately, i got alot of stuff

i got a encylopedia worth of info on go and i still shop online
for new stuff, (sounds silly but its true)

one thing im going to do is to stop spending money on my go education
until i reach shodan

i bought alot of stuff so far and its untouched or unfinished

i.e.:
books
software
equipment
lectures
pdf's

im not buying anything else until i read all the stuff i got
and that could take about 6 months

i gotta stop the bad habit of shopping online becuase i always see some cool stuff, and its only 30 bucks, but eventually that adds up to 600 bucks in my case

eh, i still might buy GOGOD,
that will be the last thing i swear lol :)

well thats pretty much the jist of it
ill check back later

my study plan is

tsumego
pro games
serious games w/ review
reading anything go related

Ah it feels like my go life is in shambles but as I sit in front my go board I still get that warm feeling inside *motivation*

I'm angry at myself because I don't have all the time in the world to devote to my go like I use to

I haven't been on KGS in so long or wbaduk I have been on my phone :( nothing is wrong with the phone
But I miss sitting at the computer for hours just studying and reviewing

I am so busy nowadays ever since summer break from school. my schedule is ridiculous *it use to be the opposite way around*

now I'm working on getting a job and taking trade classes on the side and just day to day life arrgh!

now I see why all the older guys can't study as much and play 20 games a day

Thank God for my phone I got
games, tsumego & books for on the go Go

I'm steady on my tsumego I'm redoing the 5 kyu set again my ratio is alot better this time around and I'm starting to not be so scared of them lol

Anyway I still watch a lectures from the Internet go school everyday except for when Im out of town

I use to watch them at night but It's working out a lot better to watch them in the morning before I leave the house

I haven't got back to my go world in a few days but I still get a article in when I can

My maklovitch game is keeping me thinking, it's great I never thought it would be this fun, I should have played one earlier.

Besides that I'm in love with pro games
since I have been reading so many smart books with commentary when I replay a game without commentary I can get my own meaning out of the moves.

*Pro game are so beautiful *

At Least after I start working I can put some money aside for lessons

I read somewhere " professionals have coaches amateurs don't " it made me laugh at first and then it made me think

L19 is great though I appreciate how u guys got me this far by just being there to answer my question and check my thinking
It really helped me a lot u guys are like free coaching

It's peaceful in the house right now so I'm going to take advantage of it and get a few good games in c ya around buddy

I been on a crazy loosing streak i even got kicked down to 10k KGS
My ol lady bought a android so you already know i put KGS on it
now i got a iphone and a android in my reach -HA HA HA HA HA- *evil villan laugh*

at first i lost my first few games on time
becasue i  kept tapping the screen instead of hitting confrim lol

im so use to tesuki & orobaduk tap zoom

and then i starting hitting confirm and sometimes it lags, it was getting on my nerves

but this is day two im use to it now

i feel sorry for the android guys the go app selection is eh
but that means its time for some good progammers to take advantage of the wide open market and make some good quality stuff

now that im use to the controls i like the KGS app and i have her phone all the time now lol :)

it comes with a KGS plus subriction for two months so im gonna get on top of that i never had kgs plus before, so this will be interesting

but im anrgy at my loosing streak *angry is not the word* , i has me playing alot more on kgs though, -it is better to lose to a worthy opponent than it is to squash a bug- 33 strategies of War Robert Greene

i have been thinking about how its easy for kyu players to improve but the get caught up in bad habits and they cant see them
becasue they are winning games aginst other plays with bad habits
so the think the bad habit is acceptable

everything is suppose to be so basic but we make things harder on ourself by thinking is complicated, like we have to be able to read 20 moves ahead or memorize comlplicated joseki

reading how not to play go makes me hate being a kyu player,

im delcaring war on the kyu mentality literally.

but all i can do is what i have been doing, i just need to more of it
beacuse its not enough

live games
tsumego
review
and study pro games

speaking of pro games Gou's internet go school has alot of good pro game reviews, they are motivating

besides that i just gotta stick with the basics fundamentals because obvoiusly im missing something,

one thing about it though, i never was lazy and i can't start getting lazy now, so i know imma make it out of the kyu ranks, my new goal is to play 1,000 good quality focused games, that should take care of that

i lost to many games by not paying attention

imma keep going over the fundamentals and doing tsumego and getting reviews

see u at the top

I have been working on my 1000 games

I'm getting my confidence back up and my rank graph is moving back up to 9k!

I was wondering what was going on for a minute

But I came to the conclusion that I just gotta play more games , my studying is good and my reading is par but I'm lacking in the ranked games department. I was getting frustrated but I played through it.

Like the track coach says walk it off!

I use to use KGS for serious even games only
And play more wbaduk now it's reverse and my KGS account is the most active right now.

I'm getting more KGS in on my lady's phone
I have it all the time :)

KGS plus is pretty cool
lectures by pros & teaching games personally I wanna play in a tournament.
Maybe next time!

Time is starting to get more attractive than sleep.

I have been doing my daily tsumego
20 a day counting the ones i get correct the first try n now I'm on the 4k set On the smartgo pro iPhone app

I'm working out in the test room again on wbaduk I'm starting from the bottom going for 90% to pass each level in 100 question sessions. In on the first level *because of dumb mistakes 86% * but it's helping me with my perfectionism in reading

Also I'm watching lectures on Joseki in Gou's internet go school *5 stars *

My reading includes the go world And smartgo books

I want to memorize some pro games but I just don't know where to begin

I might go by favorite pro or most beautiful games ... It's nothing immediate but it's something I have been thinking about

My birthdays is coming up
And I want

1.gogod - ha that looks funny games of go on disk

2.Robert Jaseiks Joseki books vol 1&2 - I like to have sets-

3.Crazy stone - perfect for no Internet situations

My ol lady is getting me one of these so I got my fingers crossed * come on all 3!*

Hanging out on KGS I over-read in a chat on a game

That a 8 Dan player was taking the pro exam this year and I thought to myself
Wow 8 Dan KGS is strong

Why isn't he 9 Dan I thought and I guess somebody heard me and they said something about it but everybody agreed KGS 9 Dan is is at least 1p

Well i'm off c u at the top

its difficult for me to play my best every game
epically with me playing so many games going for my 1000 quality games goal

im beginning to notice
the majority of my mistakes are caused by not paying attention
and being frustrated

i play my best in a relaxed quite atmosphere on the computer

on the phone its more easy going laid back games and my opponents often are more focused and sharper than me and i can tell because im losing alot :), i try to pick good times to play to counter that but as soon as i get in a game something comes up. i can watch other people play all day but as soon as i get a game the phone rings

i got bumped down to 11 kyu and what is funny, i was like this is some bull- played a game with a 12 kyu and he smashed me
i was like- what is going on.

my emotional reaction was not constructive so i adopted a more constructive attitude - just keep playing more games

and i took something good from this losing streak

trials and tribulations build character in real life and on the go board, so I'm going to just play my way back up its a little bit further down now, but hey- that's life. you adopt or whine like a pig.

go is a reflection of you and if you are not calm and in the best state of mind your not going to play your best

when your playing via phone your not going to be as focused as if you were playing at home on a computer with nothing to do

im still going to play alot of games im not going to change that
but while im doing it im going to be more aware of not taking my time and taking to much time i hate the 30 sec sd i gotta worry about lag and the 3g networks are not that hot .

tsumego has been good to me lol im on the 4k set,

im keeping a positive mental attitude- off to work
