Rated games on IGS, how?

Post by blade90 »

I finally decided to try to play on IGS but I have problems to figure out how to play rated games, maybe I'm just stupid^^'
I have played a few games over the automatch function and all of them where free games.

On KGS you can decide if you want to play rated or free games but I don't see that option on IGS.
My question is how can I play a rated game?

Which client did you use? On gIGo, if you are in the Default room,
matches are rated by default. (I almost never use the automatch function; I match manually.)

Its been a while since I've played on IGS (or any server, for that matter), but as far as I recall, there are rules -- you must play a game against an already solid rated player, and within a few stones handicap range, otherwise it falls back to non-rated.

and I think it also takes longer to lose the BC classification on IGS than it does on KGS

Thanks EdLee and xed_over for your help!

@xed_over: yeah I realized that incorrect handicap and an opponent with "?" in the rating leads to unreated games.

I figured that out when I read this really careful: http://www.pandanet.co.jp/English/ratingsystem/
I also changed to the glGo Client since it supports 3D.
