YouTube-Go-Music-Thread

Post by SpongeBob »

Often, I listen to music on YouTube while playing Go. Typically I have a specific song that I will put on for quite a while. It sort of brings me into the right mood - like the dog that will feel water in his mouth when the bell rings.

Anyway, here's the song I currently listen to: In the Air Tonight from the Miami Vice Soundtrack:

I thought it would be nice to have a thread where people can post YouTube links with the music they listen to WHILE PLAYING GO.

I listen to a lot of Turkish folk music to calm myself down.

It fits really well while playing Go for me.

A Go dance, not music. However I don't like it.

Nugget by Cake
Warning: Strong language, very literalistic fan-made music video.

I swear by it.

PS: That Turkish music does seem very calming.

The first time I played a game of Go while listening to this blew my mind (yes it's long enough that you could play a full, brisk game of Go before it finishes): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ByD5ORT6Mcw

I was hoping for many posts in this thread to get to know some more cool music.

Anyway, this one is nice also - with Metal God Rob Halford:

Heard this on NPR last week and said "I've heard this before... what is it... OH! It's the OTHER song from Excalibur!" (the first being O Fortuna, of course -- the soundtrack lists 5 songs, but if you've ever seen the movie, you know what I meant. I don't remember the other three at all, though I'd guess the theme from Parsival is probably used for Guinevere meeting Lancelot.) So I had to go home that night and play Go to it, of course. Killed stuff. Fitting.

Still listening to Andy McKee and Antoine Dufour as well

And now for something completely different - from Mastodon's album Leviathan

It's not my standard fare, and it's way too fast/active for a lot of go players, but sometimes I like VNV nation for go-playing. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t3wSAsoyEN0

"...And if rain brings winds of change, let it rain on us forever..."

Your post made me think of them because they have a lot of songs where they reference battlefields and the like. But for calmer times, I tend to pick the Mountain Goats.
Someday I want to be strong enough to earn KGS[-].

I enjoy listening to songs from the Tolkien Ensemble especially http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=is6N-KnPqzQ. But I suppose you have to be a Tolkien-nerd to enjoy it much. ><

I play at least two stones weaker when listening to music while playing. Which kind of music really doesn't matter, I invariably lose. I don't get how you manage to multitask listening and playing.

i can't speak for others, but for me it is really easy - i don't really listen to the music, i just have it playing and making a pleasant background. kind also doesn't matter - peaceful, meditative music is nice, but rock does just as good for me :)

one example (definitely the more gentle one): Finnish band Loituma http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_S1NIkuM38. too bad they've made only 2 albums

I might be wrong, but probably not.
