Because everybody does, I'll hide my online status as well. Though I wonder why I should decide one way or the other as I hide my my identity anyway.

What makes you think most people do? Right now the status line says nine registered users on line, two hidden. It seems like most people don't

That refers to the thread you are reading. At the forum index page it says registered users online... that would be anyone logged in to any part of the forum...
right now that is 10 registered, 0 hidden, and 7 guests....

How stupid I can get. I change my settings again. So everybody can see I am online or not.
