Hi

Post by Mendicant »

Hello everyone. I just joined my first forum. And this is my first post I guess. I hope I'm doing it right. I'm also new to go. I've had a board and stones for about 2 years now, but unfortunately I've only ever played against a few friends who didn't really know the game. I'm looking to learn and play more challenging games, even if that means I have to start playing online. I've already found a lot of interesting discussion and links on the site. Most of it is over my head at this point, but I'm looking forward to learning. See you around the forum.

Hi! this is my first forum too!

Online play is invaluable - KGS is the most popular.

Hi and welcome to the forum and to a long journey with the most fascinating game. I agree with CheeseNPickle that KGS is the most popular online go server, and it also very beginner friendly. If you like doing exercises, you could also try out 321go.org. It includes an online course and tons of go problems that are linked to it. It took me from nothing to 15k.

Thanks for the welcome everyone. And thanks for the advice. I've got a busy weekend ahead, but next week I plan on jumping into a few matches at KGS. I'll be sure and post about how it turns out. Oh, and Phelan, my avatar is actually taken from the Halo video game lore. I'm a bit of a Halo fan. Less of the soldier stuff and more of the sci-fi part.

Thanks. I'd love to play sometime. My internet is down at home for another week or so (I'm posting from the office), but I'll be looking for games soon.

There are always willing players around. Post your KGS handle once you've created an account and many of us will gladly play a game with you, or offer lessons or review. :)

My KGS handle is Mendicant as well. Signed up a day or so after joining the forum. Haven't played any yet, but I love that you are able to join and watch the games there. This has been the first time I've really seen people play at a level higher than beginner. KGS is good times.

KGS is great for that. Being able to watch games of all levels is definitely a lot of fun. Don't let yourself get lost in that, though, and remember to actually play some games! That's a problem that I have some times. ;)

And I guess I didn't say it before, welcome to the forums!
