Notable games by Seo Bongsoo

Post by hyperpape »

I'm looking for important games by Seo Pong-su. By that I mean ones that demonstrate his style, feature excellent play, and all that jazz. If they're title games or against notable opponents, that's also a plus, as are games with a commentary available.

I can probably get the sgfs if you give me the name of the game, so don't feel as if you have to include that.

Thanks in advance.

I very much enjoyed "Master Play: The Fighting Styles of Kato Masao & Seo Bong Soo" (http://www.slateandshell.com/SSYZ008.html). It is very easy to read and very understandable. Most of the time the play is analyzied one move by move basis. I very much recommend this and all the other books from the series.

edit: Games from him in general can be found here:

I've heard great things about all of Yuan Zhou's books. I almost added that games not in the book are ideal.

Edited way later: I meant that games in the book are not ideal because I wanted other examples, not that they're bad games.

Maybe Kuksu Final games form 1986 and 1987? About as long time limits as you can get in Korea (3 hours?) and of course finally getting the best of Cho Hun-Hyeon: priceless. :-)

You can also find some mane-go games of his in databases, which is kind of interesting.

Also Go World has a couple of commented games:

Seo Pong-su, 7d - Cho Hun-hyeon, 8d, B+5.5 (Komi 5.5)
25th Kuksu Final, Game 4, 1981-11-30
Commentary in Go World 27

Seo Pong-su, 9d - Yi Ch'ang-ho, 9d, W+R (Komi 5.5)
41st Kuksu Final, Game 3, 1997-11-21
Commentary in Go World 82

GoGoD has 1213 games of Seo Pong-su, including an interesting series of games he played in title matches with Cho HH, where the same pattern of mirror go was played in 10 games.

Best wishes.
