Windows Home Premium vs Java vs KGS

So, I got a new computer, and I'm trying to reinstall everything and I've hit a snag trying to get Cgoban 3 working. The new computer has Windows Home Premium 64-bit installed and I've installed the 32 and 64 bit versions of Java, and downloaded Cgoban 3.

I use the no file association one since gl-Go client for IGS has an SGF editing utility that I like better since it has scroll wheel support so I can go through the game without having to click.

However, whenever I click on the jnlp it refuses to load. Nothing comes up. What's the fix?

Try right clicking the file, then choosing run as administrator.

There unfortunately is no Run with Administrator available when I right click.

If you right click it and go to properties look for a check box under the compatibility tab for it. See if that helps.

When I try to go to compatibility mode via properties, compatibility isn't one of the tabs listed. Only general, security, details, and previous versions are available.

I've tried reinstalling Java (32-bit), redownloading the jnlp file, tried to allow the program to bypass the firewall, looking for Compatibility mode, etc. I do have both the 32 and the 64 bit versions of java 6 installed. I'm just stumped why it isn't working.

a couple of different things to try...

-- download the .jnlp file and save it to you desktop. try to run it from there (humm.. re-reading your post, sounds like you're doing this already)

-- find (probably in the Control Panel) the Java Web Start program and run it directly. Should be able to install/run KGS from there.

-- finally try running it from the command line (which may help you see the error messages to debug the problem better).

(there's probably some options you'll need to pass to it, I forget)

you can also try right clicking on the jnlp file, go to properties, click change button where the opens with file association is. Make sure it is set to C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\javaws.exe if you are running 64bit version windows... otherwise C:\Program Files\Java\jre6\bin\javaws.exe

Tried everything. However, when I completely uninstalled Java, and reinstalled the 32 bit version it magically worked. YAY!

Though I think that wms should totally program a 64 bit version

KGS does work on 64-bit Java.

The problem is that on Windows, 64-bit Java doesn't come with webstart. Don't ask me why...

It's working fine on Linux, and it's also working fine when you manually start it without webstart, but then you're missing auto-updates.
