I recently got a new goban, stones, and bowls from YMI. I ordered the somewhat ubiquitous size 33 stones. They are (unsurpisingly) infinitely nicer than the plastic stones from my old $20 set that is getting in bad shape. But I am a little disappointed by the thickness. The black stones feel a little thin to me, but the white stones feel like wafers. I'd like to try some Yunzi in the 36-40 range but can't seem to find them anywhere. Does anyone have any resources? Do they even exist?
Thanks for your time and God bless,
Adam

Re: Size 36 Yunzi Stones?
Did you express a desire for larger stones to the nice folks at YMI? I know they carry a honkin' huge size 42 Yunzi stone set, available either direct from them or via ebay:

They are *so* big that you need chopsticks to place 'em on the goban!!

Re: Size 36 Yunzi Stones?
jdl,
I got double convex, size 33's, sorry for being unclear.
Schwartzseer,
I looked at the size 42's. I have 3 problems with them, 1)I can't find a bowl to fit them cheaper than about $300, 2) They're bigger than even I think I like, 3) for a size of questionable desire they're very expensive.
I have found some that seem to be the right size, but am unsure of the supplier (more my ability to get the stones from A to Me. Here's a link: http://www.jwebshop.com/products/2009/05/23/J00002027.shtml
Thanks and God bless,
Adam

Re: Size 36 Yunzi Stones?
1) Regarding a large enough bowl, YMI offers an "XL Bamboo" bowl set for $40, which has basically the same dimensions as their "Super XL Rosewood" bowls, but I suspect would have greater "interior" volume given the bamboo is shaped and layered, as opposed to the "solid" wood bowls which are hollowed--you can always contact Janie at YMI to have her perform a "pour test" to see!
2) As far as size I was responding to your "wafer thin" perception of 9.2mm biconvex stones, thinking you wanted to make a "substantial" move up
To my mind the 11mm Yunzi you found aren't that much thinner than the 11.9 (at least percentage-wise
3) As far as cost goes, the 11.9mm are clearly pricier than your 9.2, but the Yunzi from JWebshop you reference are not cheap either--not only will shipping be significant, but the listing says there is a 30 piece minimum order!
Still intimidated by the size 42 stones? You can always "compensate" for their "thickness" by getting an equally impressively proportioned goban--there are various vendors selling a 3.25 in. solid bamboo table goban (i.e. http://www.moriental.com/3-14-Solid-Bam ... _1581.html), which would look smashing coupled with the "XL" sized bamboo bowls overflowing with size 42 Yunzi!

Re: Size 36 Yunzi Stones?
Schwartzseer,
Thanks for pointing out the 30pc minimum order. I missed that! Concerning Bowls for the size 42s the XL Bamboo bowls are only rated for up to size 41. Maybe I'll ask if YMI if there's even a ghost of a chance of jamming those beasts in there.
Until then anyone want to buy 29 sets of size 39 Yunzi's?
Thanks and God bless,
Adam

Re: Size 36 Yunzi Stones?
Were you able to find either size 36 stones or a set of bowls to fit size 42 stones? I am considering buying a decent-sized double-convex Yunzi stones myself.
