Improvement from playing in ASR League

Post by karaklis »

Hi folks,

as I am still uncertain about joining the ASR league, I'd like to know,

1) For how long have you been a member of the ASR League
2) How many games have you played
3) and most important: How much have you improved since joining (rank at time of joining and current rank)

Thanks.

I've been a member for one year, not including this month. I've played 124 games for an average of 10 1/3, and won 33 of them :blackeye: This month, in the large Delta, I've already played 13 games and won 7. :rambo:

In terms of rank, I have gone from a weak 6k to a tentative 5k, and while the improvement is quite minimal, I do attribute some of it to the ASR League, and I have had the positive experience of realizing that I can beat 2 and 3k players in even games. Basically though, I can't see why one wouldn't want to join. There is virtually no commitment, it's fun, and you play slow games that often end in a review. Looking forward to seeing you. :)

I'm an on-again-off-again member for about 1.5 to 2 years. I'm on again this month in the huge Delta, but that doesn't factor in to my response here.

If you have the time to play, I say join. For your specifics:

A) See above.
B) I'd have to check, because the ASR is only one of many different ways in which I have gotten interesting games. Likely over 100.
C) ASR has been a good tool to help my growth, but I can't give you a concrete answer to how much it has contributed. It's one tool of many. My recommendation is to enter the league with the expectation that you will review every game you can. The people are friendly, and even if your opponent does not have the time to review, you might be able to find others in the ASR willing to help you review.

For the record I believe I was 7k when I first joined the league (and the league was definitely a different beast at that time than it is now).

1. Dec '10 > Jan '11, Aug '11 > present
2. Min 10, max 26, mode 13.
3. 7k>6k, then steady at 4k.

Thanks for the replies so far. I'll give it a try and will sign up for December. At least it can't hurt ;-) . See you in class Delta.
