Kuchinashi Tournament (1k-3k)
It's time for the 3rd pseudo-annual Kuchinashi Tournament!!!
Redundant started a thread to start the discussion but since the preliminary questions have been handled I thought I would start an official tournament thread.
The Kuchinashi tournament is designed to give players of similar strength a chance to play a series of series games against each other.
If you are interested is participating please post to this thread and include your timezone for pairing purposes.
Here are specs for the tournament:
- All games will be played in the Life in 19x19 room on KGS
- Time setting are 1 hr + 1:00x3 byo-yomi
- Each round is a best of 3 series
- There is a 2 week maximum window for each round
- Losers enter a secondary bracket
- Championship is between the winners of the two brackets with the winners bracket getting a one game advantage
- The loser of the final round in the winners bracket (the only person eliminated after a single elimination) then has the opportunity to challenge for a game to determine 2nd and 3rd place
- In the past Dan level players have normally been around to review games. Hopefully someone will volunteer to offer the winner a couple free teaching games.
So far 4 people have signed up in the other thread. Once we reach 8 people Redundant will set up brackets. Edit: up to 7 see below
Who will be the next to assume the title of Kuchinashi?
First round pairs:
Nikolas73 vs Osvaldo (1-2)
Simba vs Karaklis (0-0) Simba by Res.
Everyone else is a bye
Second Round pairs:
Otakuviking vs Osvaldo (1-1)
Chew Terr vs Lovely (0-0) Lovely by Res.
Marcus vs RedStick (1-1)
emeraldemon vs Simba (0-1)
Losers Bracket:
Nikolas v. Karaklis ( Nikolas by Res)
The two pairs in the 2nd round who know they're opponents may begin games at any point. The rounds are set up the way they are in order to make the losers bracket make sense.

It appears we've reached critical mass. Brackets to be posted soon. If any of the first 8 are now unable to play then Simba can step into their spot.
Also, it looks like there are 6 or seven people from the 4-8k range who are interested. Does anyone want to set up a second tournament?

Re: Kuchinashi Tournament (1k-3k)
Excited to see the 3rd tournament! I can't remember, is there anyone in this that's been in the previous 2? Redstick, and I can't remember if nikolas was in the first one.
p.s. looking forward to the 1-3d one in a few months.

If such a tournament were happening while I was available I would definitely play in it.
