Google Code Jam
... I just beat the qualifier round, looks like Kirby did too. Anyone else trying?

Re: Google Code Jam 2012
I ... did it!!
It only took about four hours, but I did it!
Well, to be precise, I solved one of the sets. And now I see that I need five more points to advance to round 1.
Still, I think this isn't too bad, for only having started (Java) programming four months ago. (I hope it isn't too bad.)
Edit:
After reviewing the remaining sets, I think I'll stop here. It's been a good first run, but I still have other work that needs doing and games that need played.

Re: Google Code Jam 2012
I was planning on it, but I decided I couldn't make time. I'm currently doing one of the courses from coursera.org which I'm still drastically behind on.

Re: Google Code Jam 2012
Thanks for the reminder daniel, would have missed it without this thread. I'm a bit tired atm, so I only solved 2 sets (A, C) which puts me above the required 20 points, even if my big set for C happens to be wrong.

Re: Google Code Jam 2012
That's exactly what I did! The next round probably will require more effort, though...

Re: Google Code Jam 2012
Whoops, I forgot all about it. I guess I'll have to try one of the other times.
I don't think I can beat it in less than half the time...

What do you mean? Round 1A starts in 6 days, and you beat the qualification

Re: Google Code Jam 2012
Li Kao, you are right, I was very confused about the schedule when I wrote that.
I still am... I think I just missed 1A for real...

Re: Google Code Jam 2012
I tried 1B and ran out of time before getting the bugs out of the second problem.

Re: Google Code Jam 2012
Pretty much the same for me, in 1C. Solved it in about 50mins, but then spent 1.5h finding a stupid bug(didn't reset some variable between subcases). So I ended up with only problem 2 solved, which didn't give enough points.

Re: Google Code Jam 2012
Instead of making a new thread, I'll just resurrect this 5-year-old thread to let people know that sign-ups for Google Code Jam 2017 are open. I'll be giving it a shot this year to see how well I do (signed up as 'tesuji').

Re: Google Code Jam 2012
I'll be in the fray too
Might try the "Distributed" version this year, though.
