FIREWORKS IN THE OLLEH KT CUP Jul 05, 2010 08:46 pm | Mark Proctor
Although An Choyeong 9P became disagreeable during the scoring phase of last Tuesday’s match in the Olleh KT Cup, requiring a tournament official to mediate the dispute, he was ruled the winner, defeating Song Taekon 9P by 3.5 points in the game.
Does anyone have more information? The synopsis here makes it sounds as though the winner was in dispute, although if it's a ko-connection dispute like Go Seigen's, I have a difficult time imagining 4 whole points arising from one that a player feels he can indisputably avoid connecting.

And now that I realize the game record is there as well...
Looks like the final move by Black might have been at J10 instead, thus earning one point if by some crazy rules decision black unconditionally won the ko? In that case it wouldn't be game deciding, so it was just sort of a sensationalist article. I still find it weird though, and I'm looking for something else that could be the problem...
I think it was just a little bit of friction over the way stones were arranged during the count up. Nothing to do with rules. And I think An was just upset, not disagreeable.
People might like to know about the new olleh KT tournament. It's KT hello backwards, part of KT's new branding, meant to show innovation - though Jeonju natives apparently also claim the word in their local dialect (meaning something like "Good on yer, sport"). There's a 700 million won fund, 100 million to the winner. Players get 1 hour each plus 3x40 seconds, all games internetted. The prelim system is pretty labyrinthine - we are on Round 6 already - but I think it leads to a final KO of 16.
