Cho Chikun wins the 4th Japan Masters Cup for 73rd Title

Kobayashi Satoru doesn't seem too upset. Meanwhile Cho is sporting his new dark-framed glasses that, IMHO, just emphasize that he still hasn't found that hairbrush that went missing about fifteen years ago. :)

Do you have the record? :)

It seems that Kobayashi and Kobayashi played in the semi-finals: http://u-gen.nihonkiin.or.jp/common/jav ... sp?no=2112

What is the qualification requirement for the Masters Cup?
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Here is the record from Go News. This is an Over-50 tournament.

The tournament is for those 50+ and previous title winners only.

Previous title winners are seeded but others can be in the preliminaries as well.

The only reason I was fairly sure you didn't have to be a title holder was that Michael Redmond was in the preliminary.

You must be correct. Since term 2, there have been preliminary tournaments. I guess the main purpose is to have 16 players in the main tournaments so a few extra positions are available.

Wow! Redmond is over 50! It doesn't seem like that long ago that he moved to Japan as a 14 year old.
