Beginning of even game
I'm trying to be more aware of my joseki choices and their implications but I generally find it hard to reach conclusions on these questions. Here is the beginning of a game I played with a friend. Joseki choice in two corners left me a bit puzzled and I feel I could use some advice.
I had just read Relentless sample chapter and wanted to try this move
How to answer this move? I didn't like a pincer because I thought black pressing at p16 would seal me in the corner and send me running into K17, helping black solidify the H17 area. At the same time, the side seems more important so maybe having a stone here should have been a priority?
It seemed to me that the high pincer left white with the option of jumping and building the lower side. Would a low pincer by black have been better to limit white's options?
What to do at this point? I invaded at H17, but I was feeling that this might be too early. I also considered pressing black on the right side (using R7 slightly unusual location) to build more moyo, but I wanted to keep options open here instead of giving black solid points in exchange for a moyo that may not pay off.

Re: Beginning of even game
My opinions (I'm weaker than you) :
1) For your 10, I would pincer to have a stone on the side, then most joseki gives you the top side
2) I don't like your 12
3) at 22, I would rather close the corner (Q3?)
4) I'm tempted to press on the right before invading on top : this way you build strenght in the middle.I don't think you can invade the right later, so it's black points either way ?
Now, this is just some opinion of a weaker player

Re: Beginning of even game
Two things about the right side after
. First, Black is low, and it would be good to press down on his low position. Second, such as it is, Black has a moyo there and a play on the frontier of moyos is good.

Re: Beginning of even game
Many thanks for your comments!
Still a long way to go apparently to distinguish between "keeping options open" and "now's the right time".
