Joeng vs. Naiwei, but which time?

Post by Pippen »

In Tygem says that today Choi Jeong plays against Rui Naiwei. Can somebody tell which time and what tournament? In my client it's not readable.

It's on 03/17 at 18:30 KST, and it's Round 5 of the Korean Women's Baduk League.

Yes, it was the main one they were commentating until it finished, and then they switched to Kim Shinyong 1p's game.

It is a miracle that at her age (53), Rui can still play competitively against much stronger and younger opponent can actually win.

Really? Is 50+ old in Go? I thought one can still be pretty good with 50+ and then decreases with 60+, just like in real life.

Yes, 50+ is old this day specially for short game. As they get older, their concentration span is getting shorter and shorter. Lee Sedol is 33 and he is considered to be old. In a long game(2-3+ hours), they can be competitive still but not in short game.

There is a phenomenon that seemed to be true for contract bridge, which is played at a fast pace, that some of the top players retained their skill better with age than others; they were the ones who relied more upon intuition than calculation. It's not that one's powers of calculation decline, it's that the calculation slows down. With today's short time limits for go, we may see something similar. :)
