Iwamato's "Go for Beginners".

Post by Joaz Banbeck »

It is the best selling beginner's book, according to Amazon. But how good is it?

Is this good enough for a beginner? I'm not asking if it is the absolute best introductory book, but is it reasonably good, maybe among the top 5?

I have this book. I bought after I was SDK, and I never really studied it much. I think I saw it at a garage sale, and bought it mostly as a novelty.

It seems basic enough for a beginner to learn from. However, a lot of beginner books look the same to me.

I also did not use it as a beginner but have a copy. It looks like a good book, but slightly more challenging/ambitious than others I've seen.

I like it very much. It clearly describes the rules and then continues with some key strategy concepts. It is the best single volume beginner book I have run across.

This was the first go book I read. I love Iwamoto's teaching style. Highly recommended!

David Carlton's review is Here: http://www.gobooks.info/iwamoto.html

Personally I think this is one of the best books for beginners. Interesting that a great player like Iwamoto can still explain things well at the beginner level.
