Is the Paris Go Club still operating?

Post by apetresc »

I'm in Paris for a little while longer, and I noticed that the Paris Go Club website says they meet every day from 5PM... but their forum hasn't had any activity since 2008. So I'm not sure if it's even still operating – does anyone have any info on whether this club is active, and the details on their site are still correct?

I was in Paris a few months ago and, after checking the website I went to the location, a cafe, and found no one there at the time the club was supposed to be meeting. The cafe also looked a bit run down, for what it's worth. Maybe that club is not meeting? I notice there is another club in Jussieu, which is accessible via metro.

Thanks, that's exactly what I was afraid of :)

You mean the market? Why, is there something Go-related there?

Yes Aligre Market, certainly not Aligre Go Club
Paris Go Club may be the oldest, it might be the easiest to find on an internet search, it is still operating, but it isn't the best club in the world to try.

Hello, i'm parisian but not from Paris go club.
The "go club Paris" is the oldest club,so officially they are still open everyday.
In reality, there is nobody tuesday and thursday because other bigs clubs from Paris are open these days .
And for the other days 5pm is probably too early.
Other days it"should" be okay but its August,so maybe its différent, better to send them a mail.
I'm on my Smartphone(autocorrect in french). I come back this evening to give you address and days for all go clubs in Paris

In August and inside Paris,i count 3 clubs:
Club de l'ouest Parisien
Address : 43, rue de la quintinie 75015
Not many strongs players but for 1k AGA not a problem.
Open Saturday 2:30pm 7pm(long time, have his own local so no noise and no drink to pay)
Few people in august,5 last week(its the only one i have the information)

Club de Go d'Aligre
27 rue de cotte 75012
Tuesday evening 6 pm
Biggest club in number and level. The most "noisy" of 3. I dont know well, can't say more.

Club de Go Jussieu:
1 rue des écoles 75005 Paris
Thursday 7pm
Less in number but high-lvl too,
They were 8 in middle of July.

For the historic go club of Paris, i really dont know. you have a mail contact on their website

Hi everyone,

Actually, the biggest club in Paris is Aligre, the noisiest too because there's a lot of people (and it is a beer café).
You can expect between 30 to 60 go players from 17h30 to midnight on tuesdays with players about 30 kyu to 5 dan (AGA).

See you
