I'm curious about the following books.
The Heart of Go Discovery Series Volume 2: Catching Scent of Victory
The Heart of Go Discovery Series Volume 3: Otake's Secrets of Strategy
Will a KGS 7-kyu player be able to make any sense of these? What is your general opinion of them? Are the bindings still terrible, or is that an older problem that has since been fixed?

Re: The Heart of Go Discovery Series
I recently picked both up. Can you make sense of the first one? They seem to be on about the same level, and presented in similar ways. That's what I recommend is, if you like the first one, get the next two. While they are on different subjects, the approach is very similar.
Someday I want to be strong enough to earn KGS[-].

I don't have the first book in the series. I mentioned those two, because YMI has them in stock. It looks like they have volumes 2 through 7, but not volume 1.

I liked 'Catching Scent of Victory' a lot. A pro is commenting his own games, which is the type of commented game I enjoy the most.
Binding is o.k., no problems for me. (I am very careful with my books, though.)

I am very careful with my books also, but it is my observation that all Hinoki Press books have poor bindings.

I remember wossname mentioning that "Catching Scent of Victory" is his favorite Go book ever. That was a year ago, so maybe he's changed his mind, but still.

Slate and Shell show the first volume in their list. Don't know if they have stock.

Re: The Heart of Go Discovery Series
Thanks everyone. I ordered both since that pushed my order into free shipping territory. Of course two days later I got the $10 off coupon from YMI, but oh well. This should be a fun set of books to read.
