Latest video - Game review of AmbyR00 (12k) vs Turpa (5k)

Post by topazg »

Dear All,

I've gone and done another Livestream video - it's a game review from the ASR (requested a couple of months ago over Twitter), and it's aimed at somewhere between 6k and 12k.

I apologise for the awful audio quality. I don't know how much of it is due to the bitrate of the recording, but I suspect it is a limitation caused by not having a great upload bandwidth here. Next time I'm going to look at the bitrate settings and try to save to my comp and then upload in full, and see if that's better.

Provided you can cope with the audio, I've tried not to ramble on (though it is an unintentional skill of mine) but at the same time I've tried to cover some of the key topics reasonably slowly before moving on, as I think I rushed some ideas too much in the last one. It's kinda long, and I apologise for that too.

So, comments, criticisms, feedback, praise, hate mail - it's all good, and the more constructive the better :)

PS Also, I'm now preparing some material for one I've been really looking forward to doing. It's one I did for the Korean Insei League (AD asked me to do a couple of English lectures) and it went pretty well. Basically, it's on whole board thinking in the opening and early midgame, and it's going to take a single game for the first 100 or so moves, as it happened to be really rich in strategic decisions with justifiable reasoning. Hopefully it can cover some aspects of corner choices, use of thickness, sense of direction and some attacking / reduction techniques, but all from the point of view of building a plan around these ideas. Does this sound like a useful next video (specifically, is there something else people would really rather I did instead)?

I'm having a bit of a problem watching the video. It starts and I can watch the first minute or 2 (including the commercial). After the first min or 2 it just stops and gives me the "replay" option. If I start it over and fast forward a bit, it starts working normally but again stops after a minute or two.

Your game with Chew is working normally for me and so are some other videos from other users on livestream. It's quite possible that something funky is going on with my connection, but the problem seems to be isolated to this one video so I thought I would mention it here.

I've enjoyed your videos in the past, so I'm hoping I can get this one to work at some point. Keep up the good work! Thanks.

I was also having trouble viewing the video yesterday, but today it works fine.

Here's a memorable quote from the video:

Graham's Go Videos wrote:So, this is a good example of how not to attack. Make sure if you're going to play one of these second-line, eye-stealing, I-can-connect-in-every-which-direction moves, that the group can't run away and live first.

Enjoyable as always!
Patience, grasshopper.

Interesting video, thanks for uploading! The sound quality was not that bad. The language is very clear. It's much too fast for me though - too dense handling of topics (e.g. the interesting "second line killing move" somewhere in the middle of the video that I needed too long to ponder on). One good thing it the aura around the mouse pointer which makes following the explanations much easier (where did you get that btw.?)

Videos on go are still very rare if you compare them to something like StarCraft analyses for instance. So thank you very much for creating these. I wanted to download these and put them in my 'videos to watch'-cue, but I can't figure out how to download videos from livestream. I sort of assume you're not supposed to. Actually, would you have a problem with us trying to download these videos? If not, how would we go about doing so?

The video is working well for me today. It's a nice review and I hope you do some more, I learned a few tricks. Thanks!

Many thanks to all of you, that's very kind :)

I hope to do the next one at the end of this month when on holiday. Will play around with audio stuff then.

Interesting, thank you, I will take that into account again, I will probably do less concepts but in greater detail with the next one, more like the capping attack video (as it is another lectury type one). Hopefully this will be easier to follow. The aura I have no idea, it's not something I've done deliberately - I think it's a Livestream default thingy, but yeah, it is a nice touch. I really like Livestream for making this sort of thing easy actually.

Yeah, it's sad really. Not enough good high dan free videos, I'm glad I fill in a niche until the truly strong players do them more (which I would of course welcome!).

I have no idea about downloading the videos - I may have a few options open to me in the management studio - I'll try to remember to have a look. As far as I'm concerned they are free to download, host, link, throw around, do whatever you like to all of my vids. I'd love a link back to the LS page whenever you do so people get the chance to see others as well if they come across one, but aside from that, I wouldn't want to put any caveats on their use :)

Ah, splendid. Thanks again. I noticed that the go media page on Sensei's library doesn't list both your and battousai's livestream channels (unless my eyes deceive me). Perhaps we could compile a list of go channels on livestream/youtube/etc there? Might get you some extra viewers too.

I added both streams on the listing of Go Media on Sensei's Library, at http://senseis.xmp.net/?GoMedia#toc7.
