How strong are you now?

Post by chef »

I'm just wondering how many stones people on the board have improved ever since becoming a member? And that includes the old GD board as well.

Personally when I came on I was about a 25 kyu. I'm now 8 kyu on KGS

I've gained about 4/5 stones in my KGS grade since I joined. (I started playing in about June last year, joined this forum in September/October by which time I was about 13k; I'm 9k on KGS now but I really don't think I'm as "good" as that, looking at the games I've played over the last 2 or 3 weeks.)

Hard to say because I don't play over the board any more (and online ranking are not really reliable) but I would guess about -1 stone.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

I'm up 11 stones, having moved from 17k when joining GD to 6k now. Thanks GD & L19!

I wouldn't mind a couple more though...

I started with 15k. Now I am 7k, so it's an improvement of 8 stones.

I guess my strength - or lack thereof - is displayed via my malkovich games.

Since you started posting on GD, you haven't improved at all? I doubt that!

My first post was a long time ago, just after I'd created OGS and was advertising it. I was maybe 25k then, so call it 25 stones I guess :P

I didn't regularly post until much later.

I have gotten somewhat worse--between half a stone and a stone. Actually, I've gotten much worse if you go by my KGS rank, but I've been playing lunchtime blitz games, and I hope it's just a case of distraction.

I looked it up.
I registered on GoDiscussions on 26-4-2006. According to the EGD database I was EGF 7 kyu at that time.
I'm now EGF 2dan.

I started lurking on GD around May 2009- I was 4k at that time, and now I'm 2-3d KGS.

According to my first post on L19 in April, I said I was around 15 kyu, and my KGS graph says 17 kyu. I'm KGS 5 kyu now, so about 10-12 stones.

I was watching a show yesterday ("Heavy") in which a guy loses 50 lbs (23kg maybe?), and they hand him a 50 lbs weight to carry to illustrate how much he lost. Holding a dozen stones in my hand isn't quite the same thing, but still kinda neat. :)

EDIT: That was about the same time I started going to the New York Go Center, which is now closed.
