Zen story in the daily
The AGA linked to a story in The Daily discussing progress in computer go (http://www.thedaily.com/page/2011/07/31 ... puter-1-4/). The article mentioned that the program had beaten a strong amateur from Taiwan. Does anyone know about the circumstances--player, hardware, etc?

Wow, that first link is really interesting. Previously I had seen a post of an .sgf every time a bot beat a professional at a particular handicap, and had assumed that the bots were getting steadily stronger. It hadn't occurred to me that the bot-boosters were only posting the games that bots won, not the entire series. Thanks for sharing!

Cool seeing that Chou Chun-Hsun (Zhou Junxun as I know of him) has such an interest in computer Go.

Re: Zen story in the daily
One of the funniest moments of Congress so far was watching a dozen people crowd around a computer to watch someone play zen19d. The atmosphere was as good as any sports game, with gasps, yells, and cheers. The commentary was mostly in Chinese, so I only caught bits, but the tone was mostly enough. Also, now I still hear the occasional "Safe Mode!!!"
