1 Dan vs 1 Dan ~ looks like I commited plenty of mistakes :X

Post by Jonas »

Hey guys : )

This is the 'serious' game I played today on kgs, well to be honest after a short while I was back in my "fast-gameplay-mood" and didnt took the time I should ve taken. Hope you guys are able to give some general advice and point out direction mistakes etc.

Here is the game (I'm black):

You are obviously a couple stones stronger than me, but I think 103 would be better at C11?
That which can be destroyed by the truth should be.

Hey daniel, thanks for the comment : )

I think you are right, I miscalculated this important battle and lost many points in the process.

17: This move is misplaced. The direction of play for the high shimari is toward the lower side, but there is not much future for black there, for white already has stones at N3 and J4. The low shimari looks better. It would be solid territory that requires little defending in the future.

19: This feels slack. Sorry, I don't understand the situation well enough to offer a move that I could say is definitely better.

27: Could be at Q8 if black wanted to fight. By playing R7, black chooses territory over fighting strength. I'm not saying that this is a bad choice, I'm just pointing out that the choice is being made.

29: A fighting move like this is inconsistent with the choice made at move 27. Just the straight tobi looks safer.

If you want to grab territory and then run, that is ok. If you want to fight, that is ok too. But your stones don't seem to be in agreement here.

41: Maybe play N5 here?

47: This does not help black much, for there are no black stones to the north to serve as an extension. And it doesn't hurt greatly white, for black's last several moves have ensured that white can't profit much by playing D6 himself.
I'd play D15 or C15 here.

49: This looks like aji-keshi. What does black get by playing here? Is is so big that it must be played now so that white cannot go there himself?

53: You're commiting yourself to making F17 live, and forgoing
any possibilities of K17/M17. Not necessarily a bad choice, but I point out that the choice is being made.

55: Now you go for the corner, almost forcing white to surround your last two plays. If you wanted the corner, it would have been better to skip H18 and leave the aji there.

105: C11 still looks best.
