Need your help for a study plan!

Post by ganga »

Hi all!

I'm new here. My name is Vincenzo, i'm sixteen years old and i'm from Italy.

I started playing go in January 2012 on KGS as a 21k.
In March i reached 13k and i met my first master (the only one) and my rival (who was 14k, with the same age).
Our master was very good at fuseki(he was 6k but he was strong as a dan at it), he lacked at middle and endgame so he taugh us only the fuseki.
I love fuseki so he was the right master for me!
From March i liked the game more and more because there was my rival that made the game competitive.

In June both of us reached 8k but our master stopped connecting on KGS(since then i haven't seen him, i hope he is ok) and my problems began..

I did only tsumego until July when i reached 6k. I decided to try to read some books, i read a lot of books without finish them, all together(lol). Instead of improving, i became worse, day by day. Meanwhile my rival became 3k! For me it was a hard blow so i decided to stop playing go for one week and "one week" became four months.

When i came back (at December) magically i was able to became 3k immediately, but my rival was 1k. At February, when i was 2k, i stopped playing again for three months.
My rival now is 3d but he doesn't play anymore  and i'm still 2k becaming worse than before.

I want to improve but i don't know how, any advice will be accepted. A study plan would be fantastic, I have a lot of time for study!
Now i'm reading "Attack and Defense" because, as my teacher, i'm weak at middle game.

[P.S. Sorry for my bad english, i'm not very good at it lol]

Having periods where you seem to go backwards as a result of study is not all that unusual. It generally indicates that you are having trouble integrating what you are learning into your current understanding. Often that means that your current understanding has flaws that must be corrected before the new learning can be integrated. If you keep on keeping on, things will get better.

You might also benefit from getting a teacher or coach. :)

Good luck!
