Considering that you lost by only 2½ points, I'd say that you probably fudged the endgame a bit.

I was looking at the game and saw Black 25. I would've played White 26 at j13 to make use of the White wall and threaten to link j16 out into the center; Black already got a good chunk of the left side by that point, so White 26 at e7 would not be exactly prophylactic. White 34 at o17 would be good for sabaki and threaten an invasion of Black's right side. It's a bit odd to me that the right side was left alone for very long. I would've played White 40 at q10, then follow up with r7 or r13 to start making a bit of territory. Black was playing an influence-oriented game, so White should be playing to reduce Black's whole-board influence by first playing on vital points such as q10 and k3, then putting in stable groups from which to attack Black's stones. Remember, get strong before attacking.

Also, it looks like you got led around the nose by your opponent. Avoid that. Best thing is to go to other parts of the board that are bigger. At least threaten to make territory in other parts of the board and perhaps you can be the one leading your opponent around by the nose.

I humbly submit to you to get in the habit of replaying game records, if you haven't already. Since you seem to like influence-oriented games, I recommend Awaji Shûzô or Cho Hun Hyun. On the side replay a game or two by Huang Longshi; his games are good examples of how to best use influence. In fact, here's the link to a video commentary on one of his games. http://www.gocommentary.com/free-videos ... nyuan.html

You may also have to learn how to play a territory-oriented game. There will be games when making a big môyô will not be feasible. Lee Changho and Yu Bin are two pros that often play territory-oriented games. Kobayashi Kôichi and Rin Kaihô are two other players that tend toward the same kind of game.

As well, do problem sets, especially life & death and tesuji. You can never do too many of those :geek:
