That does not so much like an opening as a middle game started too early.
Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

It's rotating and growing larger.

This was played by Cho U a couple of weeks ago (and likely a couple of months ago on Tygem). See viewtopic.php?f=10&t=10710

Ohashi Hirofumi mentioned Cho U (I think) in his video when he was talking about the Black Hole

I'd just like to get reasonable results from orthodox play. Seeing players get good results from moves that look like they make no sense is extremely frustrtaing.

If I had forsaken other career/education opportunities and spent tens or even hundreds of thousands of hours studying Go to become a professional I would be extremely frustrated if I wasn't able to do things an amateur who only spent a few hours a week on Go could.

Thanks for sharing this game! It makes me happy to think that the final chapter on good go play might not be written, though I'm doubtful this sort of play would hold up in longer games. Still, if there were no one willing to experiment we might miss out on some potentially beautiful games.

I missed seeing this broadcast because I was out playing Go. Does anyone know who did the commentary on TV? It must have been challenging!

I know a commentary by Ôhashi Hirofumi, who has played several of these "unusual" openings, in which he stated that "usually" -- maybe around move 80 or so -- the resulting POSITIONs look very much like "normal" ones, with the exception of only a very, very few stones.

I am quite sure that he referred to pro-pro-games.
