I had no idea what to play

Post by peti29 »

As Andrew Jackson said in one of his videos: when you are left without a good move to play then the mistake was probably earlier.
Maybe that's what happened in my recent game:

I played white and after :b21: I didn't know what to do. Probably :w20: should have been somewhere at the middle bottom instead, but anyway. I didn't want to play O3 because that's like already pincered and I would only end up with a weak group while strenghtening black on both sides. I could go for the 3-3 at R-3 but that would give black a nice center influence in exchange for a small corner. There is F-3 but unless I can somehow kill the corner that again would give black too much influence. Do you know where to play?

A few comments:
- The upper right is good for white, black was too slowly making pretty shapes.
- I am tempted to play 12 at q17, corners are important for mutual base.
- 18 perhaps should pincer, say g17.
- 20 maybe pincer, you don't mind if white pushes you on the 4th line here.
- 22 could pincer, but your move doesn't suck as you seal outside.
- 26 mistake? b17
- 30 block at b15.

As for the lower side, e3 is one idea. You don't need to give so much territory to black like your k6 cap. c4 is greedy and you defended at c9 so black is being a bit cheeky to not defend around f4 area. Your moyo plan is interesting though with your top side thickness, but l14 is too slow, you can l13 sente peep and then jump further.
